I know we're not supposed to talk math here, but when a statement such as this is made, it's hard to resist. Big jackpots are, indeed rare. But the idea that having hit one reduces your chance of hitting another is completely wrong.FloridaPhil wrote: ↑Mon Nov 19, 2018 5:34 amWhen good things happen, I cash out. Jackpots are a rare occurrence and as such rarely repeat in succession.

You're both right. RNG means anything can happen. But why keep grinding into oblivion? I like to leave with the serene feeling of victory. Those rare hands are to be cherished and savored.

The sheer volume FP grinds through weekly means that something good is indeed quite likely to happen. With me, it better happen PDQ.

All jackpots are rare. There is absolutely NO correlation between hands of VP. What happened the last hand does not affect what happens the next hand. That said, a cashed out ticket that is put away goes home with you. A cashed out ticket that is reinvested in the game may not. You could lose your winnings or you could hit six royals in a row. Because jackpots are are rare, chances are it will be the former not the later.onemoretry wrote: ↑Mon Nov 19, 2018 7:00 amBig jackpots are, indeed rare. Yes. Once you have it, consider those steep odds even more. Discretion is the better part of valor.

Yes, AP. Your four grand FUBAR is the tragic nightmare and all too common. As I said, I'd get a check and check out. OMT, you know the casino is not in the money printing business. Beat them, leave psychologically and financially victorious.

I can not control the odds. Where I play VP, you either play what they have or do something else with your time. I enjoy playing VP no matter what the odds are. The only thing I can control is the amount of my bet and when I quit playing. If I keep a jackpot instead of feeding it back into the machine my long term results do not change. Going home from the casino with money in my pocket improves my attitude and my quality of life. That is worth more to me than any jackpot.onemoretry wrote: ↑Mon Nov 19, 2018 10:56 amIf you consider the odds so steep that further play is not an attractive option, why bother playing in the first place? The odds are exactly the same.

This is no mere Floridian philosophy. The Greek poet Hesiod said, "observe due measure; moderation in all things."
