Re: Possible smoking ban in AC
My mom and her friend who comes up from Baltimore on the bus are going to Showboat this weekend. Her friend is a big-bankroll player who likes 3-card poker, Boston 5-card and occasionally let it ride. My mom is like me-nickel slots/25c poker(and I gave her $30 for the nickel STP machines)and always has lunch. This is their first visit and I'm sure they will like it. P.S. Count on high-denom machines in the smoking area. They have to pay for this somehow.

One of the new casinos that just opened in PA has a smoking floor and a non-smoking floor. The casinos in NJ could easily divide their casinos in half with the tables divided the sections....who knows?

Here is a very interesting article in the recent issue of Casino Connection about the smoking issue in AC Casinos. It's kinda long, but definitely worth the read...

Mike, my mom loved the place. Her friend, although she did not do all that well at the tables, felt very comfortable and said there is a bus from Baltimore that goes to the Taj(where she has a card)and she and her husband will go over to Showboat for the buffet and play a little. My mom hit a nickel slot(right on the boardwalk to the left of House of Blues)for $225 and had lots of fun playing STP nickels(my $30 didn't last long). They both liked the fact that the place was well lit and easy to get around and the buffet was a big hit(Mom's Italian-she knows food). My dad doesn't gamble, so I am going to take her down there President's Day weekend and we are already saving up our nickels for another shot at 5-play DDB STP. The people there deserve a lot of credit-5 years ago I thought the place was a dump-now we love it. The next challenge is getting my lady friend to go there-she is a loyal Borgata player who only thinks there is one casino in town.

JHock,
So glad that you all enjoyed your trip to Showboat! I definitely agree that they have done a LOT of work there in the past few years to make it a really nice place to go. It used to be one of the worst casinos in AC in my opinion, and is turning into one of the nicer ones.
They are also going to be expanding some more over the next few years with another hotel tower and some more parking spots as well. That is one complaint that we still get a lot of.. not enough rooms!
I hope that your trip on President's Day is a success! I'll be wishing you and your mom a very profitable trip!
By the way, your lady friend is not the only one who thinks Borgata is the only casino in town. I know of quite a few people like that. It is certainly hard to beat the Borgata, but to me, that place is just a little to over the top for me.

I agree that Borgata is a little gaudy, but the reason I like it is because it reminds me of Vegas. If you are looking for eye candy, no place comes close. Definitely a young, attractive crowd. The only thing I don't like about it is that for a nickel/quarter guy like me it is hard to earn comps. I have gone there and spent hours playing machines and I get home and they e-mail me my trip statement and I earned like 6 bucks in comps and no slot dollars. I remember when Caesars, Bally's and Claridge(and the Hilton years back)had the Connection Card, which was so easy to understand-they gave you your slot and comp balances right on the machines-no tier score, reward credits, bonus reward, so on and so on. Simple. I like all of the Harrah's casinos in AC and LV, but I really miss the Connection card. Has anyone been to Harrah's Marina lately? A friend of mine said that they have done lots of work in the casino-especially the poker room. I may check it out on my next visit.

Update on the casino smoking ban... the bill passed that would require all casinos to have 3/4 of the gaming floors non-smoking.. here's the article on this..

Hey Mike I am hearing that Trump and Harrah's casinos are considering going smoke-free on their own even with the compromise reached last week. A good friend up here asked me last nite about it-she said she read it on line-have you heard anything? My friend says she's getting on the bus for Mohegan if it happens.
