10% never!

Here is what I do. I require check pay most of the time and, yes, it does require a little extra work on the part of the attendant. So, if the initial response to the jackpot is timely, and I mean timely, and then if my handpay is handled courteously in accordance with the breakdown I give the attendant, then I tip exactly 1% of the win regardless of whether it is $2K or $20K. If several attendants show up for the gravy at the time of the pay, I still give the tip to the original attendant with the comment, "Split it as you might see fit." At most casinos, all tips go into the pot anyway, so they are going to be split regardless. NEVER INCREASE THE % OF THE TOTAL TIP BECAUSE MORE 'GRAVY' GRABBING ATTENDANTS SHOW UP FOR THE ACTUAL PAY! Don't believe the "witnesses" crap. One additional witness is required plus the OK from the eye in the sky in most states I've played in. Whether you realize it or not, the eye in the sky can actually read the serial numbers on the bills of your handpay, and it is on tape, so why would you need more witnesses?

On many occasions, the original attendant is not the one who shows up with my check; that is frequently a cage supervisor or another honcho, and they are not eligible for tips. What I do then is to try to catch the attendant if they come by later or if I have another win and they are the responder. I DO NOT tip if the service is surly. I don't care about sugary and cheerful, but I don't need surly. Mostly, however, I want the original response to be very prompt or a good reason given. Once the pay process begins, I could care less if it takes 5 minutes or an hour because I am going to play on anyway, but if the original response is tardy, bye bye tip....unless there is a good reason given for the delay.

To the poster who tips 10%.....you are in a very unique minority and I bet they love you at your casino. Where I play, for 10% they better throw in some good sex also!!

I, like most of the regular posters here kinda did a double take at the 10% tip for a handpay. When I hit my single biggest payout of 15 k a few years ago I gave a c note to the slot attendant. I did have a momentary bit of stupidity when I also gave the other 3 people playing that bank a c note each, wishing them good luck. I have pretty much stuck to tipping 40 or 50 dollars on any handpay near the $1,200.00 mark and will raise it to $60.00 upon reaching $2,000.00. I found out in the early 80's that tips are all thrown together and then split between the crew, this kinda runis it for me trying to show some favor to the employee who has provided me  a service. For the record though I have never tipped for good sex.

I'm with Shadow, here.  Bet the poster will only be on the receiving end of one of those 10% splurges.

the 10% tipper likely works for the casinos posting on the various sites to raise tips
