Re: DAMULE'S 1st W2 of 2010
CK,
I'm wondering if there may be some games that pay for a pair of 10's or better. Just not something I look for or remember seeing.
BTW CK, have you seen the progressive RF payouts at the new Wild Horse Pass lately? Some of these games are above 100%!!! DDB $1 progressive was over $8000 and TDB .25 progressive over $2500 today. I checked to make sure they're 5 coin in and not 10, they are 5. The machines were packed, but I think I'll go early one day next week and see if I can grab one. Let me know what you think if you check them out.
Congrats, I still have the picture of the RF I hit last year holding the ten of diamonds. I'll have to admit that these are, somehow, just a bit more fun than those run-of-the-mill one and two card draws.
shadow,
Forgive me if I'm not at an advanced level in certain video poker games as I've only mastered several games (deuces wild and variants, double-double and triple-double bonus), but is there really a game that holding a single ten would ever be the correct strategy?
Yes there is. It's the 200/75/50 version of One-eyed Jacks Wild (100.28). And, the RF I had last year was my second one holding the TD. Had another one back in 2007.

Wasn't there also a game called "Players Edge" that paid even money for a pair of tens? I seem to remember playing that at Cherokee in NC.

IIRC, there was a 6/5 version of tens or better (otherwise, the same as JOB). It paid back around 99%. I don't remember seeing one for at least a decade.

Memory has returned for a moment. It was in '05 when hurricane Isabel blew through here and I went to the Mountains to escape it. (Nice santuary as Harrahs picked up the tab) These particular machines dealt slower then a one armed dealer with the cards stuck together. As you noted, the game did play like JOB other then that one exception.
Memory now returning to normal.

Faygo, on my only trip to Cherokee (2000) I ended up playing a game called Shamrock Sevens. It was a variation of Joker Poker with a bonus round anytime you ended up with 3 or more sevens. Good game.

I gave that game a try but never seemed to have any luck. Probably using the wrong strategy. As I recall, the screens wern't very player friendly either. I need to get back there and see what is going on now. Think I'll wait until Winter passes though.

The game strategy would be difficult to determine exactly because you would need to estimate the value of 3 sevens. Back at the time I played the game I only had vpfreebie as a tool. I never did attempt to estimate the return but I felt it was close to 100%. Besides, I only stayed there one night.
In addition, one of the bonus round wins was equivalent to a RF. That means the game would have a pretty high variance.

Congratulations Mule! I take no offense in being one of the naysayers of the hybrid VP games. You hit the nail on the head by tagging them with increased volatility. Even if the payback is better, I'm still not a huge fan of them other than playing a Jackson or two thru them to pass some time.

Damule,I've played the bar and the upright progressives at WHP, but alas to no avail. Don't know what it is but I've yet to hook up with a jackpot hand at that place. Even when they are positive. I've noticed a lot of one coin plunkers on the progressive machines and sometimes wonder if there is some correlation between the "Jackpots" they hit and why I can't catch one. All the best in your early morning endeavor. Let us know how it went.I really like the layout of the casino and the 9/6 DDB. The other games aren't worth the risk for me.The food at Ling and Louie's (sp), is pretty good too. However, the food court is way over priced even on a comp. imho.Again, for me, The Fort is still where I'm getting the most bang for my buck. Playable games in all denoms and games. CK
