I was a little on the border when i joined. i had studied advantage play and i put in time reading what the <other guy> (i don't think we can write his name?) had to say. I went to a Dancer class, and the other guygot with me at the Fiesta Rancho for a few hours of talking and teaching at a machine. I had heard of Frank Kneeland and thought he too might be a little different in what he brings to the table so it caught my interest. Not so sure now. What i, as an independent, found from all this is I'm never going to do anything more than be a basic for-fun player who knows cards, understands math pretty good, i know how to take advantage of promotions and the higher pay tables, and once in a great while i'll hit a royal Wahoo! I found i'm not into it enough to remember every tiny difference in the value of certain holds, i really can't take the time to learn the complexities of the other guy's method, and i'm definitely not the type to sit at a machine every day even for an hour. I just do my best with what i bring to the table and try to enjoy it.

There are very good habits to have while playing vp that will decrease the bottom line of money that will be lost in the long run. Most anyone on this site knows them.  These should always be followed.  Its just that I cant lie to myself. I have played the game compulsively and had very different results then some people who claim that they are ahead quarter after quarter, year after year. Very different results. And yes, Ive put in the time to learn perfect strategy as well. There is an ugly side to these games being random that people continue to ignore. I will continue to play vp but more for fun and less often now after what I have seen. Also, I would rather be lucky than skilled any day.
