Re: Pet Peeve: Single Credit Players
Time to tell them SWEETLY, to avoid casino rage, about the TURBO button and the draw button to add up their score without the ding ding ding. They may even thank you. If they seem perplexed, show them how you play it.

Quad Deuces, it would be very nice if you were correct but unfortunately many years of carefully controlled research tells a different story.
The truly alarming fact about secondhand smoke is that even the briefest exposure will increase the risk factors. During the 2011 testing year, almost 50,000 non-smoking cardiovascular fatalities in the U.S. alone were directly related to exposure to secondhand smoke. Lung cancer is actually a secondary risk compared to cardiovascular disease.
The point I want to make that is widely misunderstood is that with a lesser exposure to cotinine, the quantity and frequency of exposure do not mitigate the risk --- once exposed, the risk is there. This is why secondhand smoke is so dangerous and especially dangerous to those with a history of cardiovascular disease.
I would not want to turn this forum into a secondhand smoke debating platform, but if you have an interest in the subject may I suggest that you check the websites of CDC, Mayo Clinic, or the National Academy of Sciences. I am not aware of any reputable/credible medical science or medical research that indicates secondhand smoke to be anything other than an extreme hazard. It is possible that if you search you might come across research promoted and/or funded by the tobacco companies that disputes the hazards of secondhand smoke, but that's about it.

since the subject has been broached, I will share my two credits..... Cardiovascular disease at its most basic and simple cause is when arteries become cracked/damaged and particles normally within the bloodstream become embedded in these damaged cracks and buildup what is known as plaque. Now what actually causes the arteries to become damaged is really the true root cause of cardiovascular disease, since the plaque which forms would never be able to clog an artery if the damage never occurred, plaque which is composed of things like fats and cholesterol and calcium and blood clots, e This is why some people who are seemingly unhealthy in every respect, overwieght, smoker, diabetic, etc never have heart disease, and its also why some people who are seemingly in great shape have clogged arteries. So what causes arteries to become damaged? High blood pressure, especially when the diastolic (second number) is elevated for prolonged periods, can cause artery walls to crack and plaque to form. But the most common cause of artery damage is from INFLAMMATION, whereby the bodies inflammatory immune response to many things causes damage to arteries. Things like exposure to pollutants (i.e. cig smake), infection and high stress are the chief culprits of the inflammatory response that damages arteries. Once the damage is done, plaque is inevitable, but here is where efforts to limit fat and cholesterol and diet and exercise can slow the accumulation of plaque, so that is why certain drugs are used and all the other common treatments. But the fact remains, if your arteries remain clean and undamaged, you can have gobs of cholesterol and fat in your blood but they wont stick to or clog your artery walls if there are no cracks to latch onto....makes sense right? Look it up.....picture a pipe that is smooth and undamaged on the inside, versus a pipe that is damaged by rust or trauma....over time the damaged pipe can become clogged with crap, whereas the clean pipe or artery can only be clogged if a OVERLOAD (i.e. a bloodclot from trauma or injury) clogs it. Secondhand smoke is such a "pollutant" that causes arteries to be damaged or cracked by repeated exposure and the body's inevitable response to this..... PART II It is now an established medical fact that people who smoke are SIGNIFICANTLY more likely to develop SUBSTANCE abuse problems (Drug and alcohol addiction)....look it up or google it! It is often depicted on shows about drug rehab where so many patients are smoking and/or allowed to smoke....in fact, according to Dr Drew, smoking is even encouraged in patients kicking drugs or booze while in rehab because it allows them to focus on the most deadly and damaging addiction first, and later on they can tackle smoking....whatever, it all makes sense when you think about it since smoking is now classified as another addiction. It should be little wonder then that smoking and gambling are so inextricably linked, since GAMBLING is also addicting. Now before anyone pitches a fit, I am NOT saying all gamblers are addicts, but clearly all SMOKERS are addicts, so SOME smokers who also gamble are addicts of both, and some gamblers who do not smoke are addicted to gambling......

Sorry. Still don't buy it.Going to a casino and complaining about the smoke is like going to the beach and complaining about the sand. Get over it or don't go.

I'm not complaining so much about the smoke in a casino, rather, I'm complaining about the smokers that gripe about repositioning their cigarette if asked. This is especially bothersome if I am sitting at the machine first and they come up and just start puffing away. In defense of some smokers though, I have had some ask me if it was allright if they smoke and that makes a world of difference to me.

So dont buy it.....if fact I wholeheartedly encourage you to sit as close as possible to people sucking on their burning paper wrapped weed sticks, inhale as deeply as you can and enjoy your video poker experience. While your at it ditch your sunscreen too and do your taxes in the middle of your backyard while sunbathing, my gut tells me you are clearly immune to skin cancer as well as lung cancer and heart disease. I find it inspiring that people who flunked basic 6th grade earth science and biology are able to be so sure of themselves and their opinions, helps me with all the self doubt I might have.....

In defense of some smokers though, I have had some ask me if it was all right if they smoke and that makes a world of difference to me. BUT what do you say when they ask if they can smoke next to you? LIE and say "Sure, go ahead!" or "THANK YOU for asking. PLEASE do not smoke, this is the only pair of lungs I own and I prefer not to smell like a bleep cigarette all day!" (or in my case: "my husband will know I have been to a casino!" ) I am so proud of them for asking and remembering what mama tried to teach them about thinking of others. SO, I usually say something insincere/inane like "It's okay by me" and exit the machine about a minute later. THEY KNOW! (theywon) I think intense fear of our physical/verbal reaction, prohibits many smokers from asking.

Marie you bring up a good point, I neglected to mention in my post that I usually say no its not ok with me. They either stay and play or go to a different bank of machines.
