Arguably the players did determine the outcome of the game. The throw to third was off-line, causing the third baseman to dive for it, putting him in the way of the base runner and forcing the umpire to call him safe at home due to the obstruction. If the throw is on target, the runner is out at third. If the throw is into the seats, the runner takes home, same outcome. Before blaming the outcome on the call one needs to trace the chain of causation to its source in the bad throw. Just sayin'...

The umpire did not call him safe at home. When the obstruction call was made the baserunner was automatically awarded the next base. Which in this case was home plate scoring the winning run.

Congrats to Boston Red Sox.   6 - 1 final score.  Red Sox take it in six. Overall, an interesting and competitive series between the two teams with the best record in each of their perspective leagues.

Like I mentioned previously, I do not watch baseball to watch umpires determine outcomes of games.  To me it is about the players.  I am not interested in being impressed by an umpire trying to show how smart he is by recalling some obscure rule especially when it determines the outcome of a world series game.

Did not realize it was the same clown that made the Galaraga call.  If I recall he apologized and faced no repercussions for his actions.  Galaraga on the other hand was never the same.  What a shame that baseball will not allow Pete Rose into the Hall of Fame but will allow what that umpire did to Galaraga go unpunished.

Anyway, lets move on.  Red Sox ahead in series 3 games to 2.  If they can not win one of the last two games at home, they do not deserve to win the world series. Obstruction or no obstruction.
Watch the play real close and you can see the Red Sox third baseman was indeed guilty of obvious obstruction, no question about it and it had to be called. Watch the legs of the Sox third baseman and you will see him lying on his stomach lift his legs a second time with the intention to obstuct the runner, the first time his legs go up is completely understandable but the second time it's just way too obvious. Easy call for the umpire and my hats off to him for doing the right thing.

And congrats to you, Chatty, on your accurate prediction on Oct 24th of the series results - both team and games.
