Re: 9/6 JOB vs NSUD
Well, for 1500 hand sessions, $150 per session will last you awhile on either game. But JoB will definitely make you survive longer.
Risk of Ruin chances on 1500 hands max of quarters:
9/6 JoB: 20.83%; Avg. number of hands played (1500 max): 1409; Min hands played (10k sims): 279
NSUD: 36.9%; Avg. number of hands (1500 max): 1312; 25th percentile: 1156; Min hands played (10k sims): 293
So most of the time you won't go broke, but I would expect it to happen a time or two on a trip.
One other note about NSUD: VPFree2 says the Cal also has it for nickels, dimes. The D also has a dime coindropper. With the limited bankroll being able to lower stakes is the biggest key to be able to last your desired time limit. Or significantly slowing down your play.
Yeah that's similar to what I expected when I ran a much more simplistic (and probably less accurate) calculation for ROR. That's why I was leaning more towards playing at the $0.25 denom earlier during the day and leaving the $0.10 and $0.05 denom games later in the day. I've also got some time set aside for 2 sessions of the $3 blackjack/craps at El Cortez - which blackjack is a lower variance game than even 9/6 JOB.
I've never played at the Cal before (only walked through it to get to MSS), so I'll have to search for those machines. Are they they only 2 machines in that specific spot or is there a bank of machines and only 2 of them have that game?
As far as the machines at the D, I think I have an idea of where they are at. I've pretty much exclusively played the $0.05 Loose Deuces machine there, and I know as you go past the Keno and Sports Lounge there's more VP back there @ the $0.25 and above denom. I think the $0.10 NSUD machine is closer to the bar and parallel to the Loose Deuces machine.
Has anyone played the $0.25 Pickem game that's supposedly at the Fremont? Can't find any simulator that has a trainer for that game. And since it's not as widely available, haven't been able to find much of a playing strategy for it either. Supposedly, it has lower variance and a higher EV than JOB. Might give it a shot if I knew how to play it.

Even ignoring the higher EV I would play NSUD over Jacks 11 days out of eleven.Jacks sucks and I say this as someone whose bread and butter for years was 10-6 Jacks.
10-6 Jacks? What's that?
A dodo bird game. I probably wasn't even legal to gamble the last time it existed. I dunno when it died though.
They had it at the Strat and Boulder Station as late as 2003-2005 if my memory is on track Definitely post 2000.100.7% with low variance.

Yeah I played pick 'em when I went to Vegas in February. I hit and ran the thing for a $20 win in about 20 minutes. I definitely like the game. And you're right it has a lower variance than JoB, but 4 of a kinds are a rare event in the game (1 in 2361 on average), and those are worth 5.08% of the games return, so the game swings more like deuces without the deuces when you don't hit quads. I'll set up a sim for this though to make sure.

They have a few of these at Mohegan Sun, but I don't know if they are full pay machines. I could never really get into the game bacause I don't like seeing a Royal completed on the hand that I didn't pick and save. That used to happen fairly often years ago when I tried the game. One thing I did notice is the machines are always busy even in the middle of the night. I will have to check out the paytable and report back here.

What machine shows the results of the pile you don't pick?
Mohegan has full pay machines at the dollar level or higher according to vpfree2.

I can't recall because it has been over 15 years since I have played the game. It is possible that now the other pile is not shown. I will find out tonight for sure since I have another run on the agenda. I will look over a couple of shoulders for a minute and check it out. Also I will see if the quarter machines they are playing are full pay and verify the dollar ones are. If either is full pay, they will also have the small sign on them about not paying momentum dollars. Since Mohegan now requires $ 470- cycled through on vp to earn 1 point worth 1 dollar of spending at the casino, this isn't a big deal for me as long as the status points still accumulate toward tier status.

Sorry I got sidetracked a bit, but I ran some pick 'em numbers too. For a 1500 hand/$150 Bankroll, it's sides a bit closer to deuces than JoB, but it's inbetween the two games.
Risk of Ruin chances on 1500 hands max of quarters:
9/6 JoB: 20.83%; Avg. number of hands played (1500 max): 1409; Min hands played (10k sims): 279
NSUD: 36.9%; Avg. number of hands (1500 max): 1312; 25th percentile: 1156; Min hands played (10k sims): 293
Pickem: 30.6%; Avg. number of hands (1500 max): 1343; 25th percentile: 1297; Min hands played (10k sims): 274

Speaking of getting sidetracked, sorry I didn't get the info yet from Mohegan Sun on Pick'em poker. I was playing and got a little sidetracked with a new to me beer. Tried Shock Top Belgian White which I really liked. Since I didn't have to drive home that night, ( well I guess you know the " rest of the story"). It also didn't help that the cute bartender poured mine in a heavily frosted mug and I had taken a break and a nice long walk in the warm May sun. Shock Top remends me of the old Schaefer beer that I grew up with. It was really cheap and great on tap. Next trip will be an Odouls trip and I will ckeck on the pick'em situation then. Good luck and health to all....Olds....

Thanks - I'll read up on it a bit and see if I can get comfortable enough to give it a shot on the trip.
Does anybody know if you can change the speed settings on the quarter JOB machines by the cashier cage at 4 queens and the NSUD machines at the D? I remember that the particular nickel JOB machine I was playing at 4 queens was extremely slow and the speed setting on that machine didn't seem to be working. Wondering if it might be different on the quarter machines. I've noticed that I make less mistakes playing on turbo or the fastest speed. Guess that might be because I get distracted watching each card pop up across the screen on the slower settings.

After a lot of insight and help from many on the forum, I've been able to come up with adequate session bankrolls for my overall trip bankroll (4 days to play Downtown).
I ended up settling on $200 session bankrolls for $0.25 denom, $100 session bankrolls for $0.10 denom, and $50 session bankrolls for $0.05 denom. Decided to stick with a combination of 9/6 JOB and NSUD play, with a bit of the D's $0.05 Loose Deuces machine play mixed in.
For each of these sessions, I figure I will average about 3 - 3.5 hours of playing time and lower my risk of ruin per session down to about 10 % or so.
Thanks again to everyone who's provided great feedback!
