This is my favorite thread, thanks everyone for sharing their memories......I too greatly miss the "old" vegas.I first encountered Vegas in 1992 right after I finished school and started working in L.A. When I first got their, Fremont Street was still a street, and The Dunes had just been closed. The Strip changed dramatically between 1992 and 1997, then paused for a year and then in 1998-99 changed again. I was able to witness Luxor open, then Monte Carlo & & Stratosphere & New York, saw the aladdin close along with the Sands (although I was there just before they destroyed the sands when they used it to film Con Air right after it closed.....very weird seeing it bustling with people and yet be "closed")Someone asked about the old place that stood where Cosmopolitan now sits.....that was indeed the old Holiday Inn with the Rollercoaster and Coney Island Theme, that used to have that ABSURD buffet that the Obese Boxer, Butterbean used to advertise on behalf of all gluttons everywhere.....Unlike most people however, I do NOT like the current Strip and think it totally overdone and overwhelming. They should have stopped in the year 2001 and spared the Stardust and Westward Ho......

I miss the San Remo, was just off the strip, across from the MGM. Hubby and I aren't high rollers but we were always treated as such whenever we stayed there. They really catered to the Asian tourists and had a wonderful sushi bar. Nice little casino. I think it's now a Hooters, wonder if Billyjoe has been there? lol I thought they had the best $2.99 steak and egg breakfast and $4.99 prime rib dinner. I wonder if the economy will hit Vegas like Atlantic City? I just don't see how these mega casinos can survive by clubbing and restaurants. Sure miss going there.

Of course.
Actually, they had nothing special, game-wise, and their outfits were rather conservative by Vegas standards. I remember winning there, though.
When they opened the casino, they also had started an airline, with flights to Vegas from select cities.

On the flip-side, I remember what replaced an empty lot postitioned between Bally's and The Alladin; my favorite casino/hotel, Paris. Many times when I was riding the "old" tram from Bally's to MGM I remember thinking that that was a very small area. Oops, guess I was wrong. I guess it stood out as small compared to the buildings between them.

You are right Galeygoo. Paris is out favorite Vegas casino as well. I was thinking that the old Alladin was where both Planet Hollywood and Paris are now. Upon consulting DW I was informed that you are indeed 100% correct.
