Re: Robbed in parking lot
Here's how security COULD be involved, for all of you out there who seemingly live in a "nice" world where ONLY really really really BAD people commit crimes.....First off, security at casinos generally is comprised of two types of employees: retired individuals who may have been involved with law enforcement or some other security related field in their past career, and then there is everyone else.....if you look around the next time in your favorite casino, you may notice many security personnel are young; this means they are either just "passing thru" (i.e. the job is just a temporary means to an end, while they find something better or perhaps while they finish school) or they have no real plans in life at the moment.....thus, it is not as if they are beyond temptation to do one of the following things:1) Security can simply be told (and of course, paid) to "look the other way" at a certain time or certain point by the perpetrators....this gives the security complete and total deniability of involvement.2) Security can give out (i.e. sell) critical info to would be perpetrators, like shift change times, patrol schedules, surveilance details....etc etc. You name it.....and again, unless they are total idiots, there is very little chance they can ever be implicated in any specific crime or incident. There's lots more potential for problems.....security at casinos are NOT paid a lot at all (with a few exceptions which I will note in a moment), have very little in the way of benefits or career advancement. It is absurd to think they are never involved, or even tempted, when crap like this goes down.Notice however, I said at the beginning, "COULD" be involved.....as was the case in the beginning, obviously I have no direct proof of the incident originally posted. But just as Ko King expressed suspicion, all of you out there who live in the real world know that what I am suggesting is more than simply a theory, but in fact is likely.I make one huge exception of course for NEVADA casinos located in the Las Vegas Area.....many of these casinos have highly trained and motivated security forces, and they pay them well, very well, so its obviously NOT likely for something like this to happen in a place like a Wynn property in Vegas, or Mandalay Bay, etc.Edited to add: In today's world, there are stories every week of REAL, POLICE and Law enforcement corruption at the local, city and State levels. This has been the sad reality since the founding of the country.....Think of the NYC police departments in the late 1960s thru most of the 1970s, it was one huge cesspool of corruption, NOT because the Majority of actual officers were themselves corrupt, but becuase just enough officers and leaders in the NYPD were corrupt and the REST of the force passively sat around and did nothing, looked the other way and otherwise allowed the bad apples to operate with impunity. Other large city forces in places like PHilly, Boston, Chicago and of course Los Angeles have had very dark periods. It is beyond me how certain people can literally be shocked or outraged when someone like me even suggests that mere CASINO SECURITY could possibly be corrupt!!! Get real.....

Leaving the empty one in the car. Her car was broken into three times.
She did learn
after the third time because the thieves were so pissed there was
nothing they did severe damage to the vehicle as well as
breaking into it. AC casino.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Who leaves a purse in a car as if in a department store window? Cruising for a bruising. That slim plate of glass is little deterrence to thieves in Pavlov mode for this easy score. The damage is just payback for wasting their time. That's life in the big city. Ignore the 40,000 population.

Yes, I guess living in "nice" Chicago I wouldn't know anything about: gangs, murder rates, shootings, corruption, theft, crimes against people, crooked politicians or crooked police, street scams, drug dealers, drug users, prostitutes and illegal gambling, other mob and criminal enterprises, the list goes on.
Wow it feels really safe and comfortable living in this bubble that is so warm and fuzzy, comfy and cozy, like a well worn pair of slippers.....
ko, again; I feel bad for you being a victim of a crime such as you were, I've been there.

I'm sure we remember the recent stories regarding the awful state of affairs with Harrahs AC security, and how they treat guests and how totally UN-inspired they seem to be when a guest complains about possible crimes or theft or assault, etc.Unless you are in Las vegas and one of their well known or established casinos, you really are on your own when it comes to security and safety in casinos elsewhere in this country, especially in this day and age. There is no way you can trust them.....

It is a definite concern. Security at a casino is to protect the casino, not the patrons. Casinos have signs disclaiming liability for cars parked in their parking lots. However, court decisions have repeatedly upheld that a business has an obligation to offer at least a minimum level of security to patrons who are on the property, and signs of disclaimer cannot waive this liability UNLESS the patron signs a waiver that is properly executed. My point is this: If I were Ko King and my vehicle was less than 300 yards from the front entrance and there were valets present along with close circuit security monitors, I would file a lawsuit against the casino for the damages, or threaten to, and then see if they are amenable to reaching a settlement. I guarantee you they do not want the publicity of a lawsuit from someone whose car was broken into in broad daylight 300 yards from the main entrance.
Walk out of your house or business. Walk three hundred yards and then explain why you think any business should be responsible for something happening three football fields away from it?

This is and should be the casino's responsibility to ensure minimum safety standards.

I'm not sure if I mentioned this in an earlier post, nothing like this has ever happened to me before. I thought this whole thing was over and done with but I seem to have some real problems now being comfortable with simply parking my vehicle in any business parking lot. I went to watch a ball game at Chili's the other day, I kept thinking about my vehicle getting broke in to so I kept getting up and walking out to check. I'm going to get an alarm system on my trucks because I always have something of value in my truck, it won't be cash anymore. I use both my trucks for all kinds of different things, I might have tools, golf clubs or fishing equipment in either of them at different times. As far as the casinos are concerned I'm told that as long as I valet park my vehicle should be safe.

If it's the 300 yards I used to describe how far I thought I was from the front door I need to correct that statement. I went back to the exact spot I was parked at when the crime occurred and discovered it was far less than 300 yards. Now I had no way of measuring the exact distance but I could have easily thrown a football from that spot to someone standing at the front entrance to the casino. Now one other thing you need to consider is this is no normal business, this is a casino where it should be a given that maximum security should be required, not minimal security. Something else I discovered was that this racino does have video cams all over the parking lot but no one monitors them, they also only have 1 security vehicle cruising the parking lot. You also need to understand that the same people that own the casino also own the parking lot, try breaking into or tampering with one of their machines inside the casino and see what happens then.

Cameras are more for gathering evidence than for providing
real time responses.
I don't believe you have any sort of case against the casino. If they offered you a settlement, and word got out, they'd be dozens of new ones each week. Suddenly folks would be leaving tens of thousands in their cars.
