From the Back Office, a Casino Can Change the Slot Machine in Seconds
By MATT RICHTELAPRIL 12, 2006
This article is a mere eleven years old. It refers to a "high-technology experiment".
To me, it's quite a stretch to conclude, on the basis of the article, that, today, casino staff can manipulate machine payouts at their whim.
Depends on state law. If the jurisdiction says they can, then yes. In Nevada, I believe the law still says the machine must be idle for several minutes, so a casino can't simply throw a switch and every machine is suddenly paying out more or less. I do know, for certain, that they don't need State permission to change payouts, as that is given in their licenses. As long as they pay above the state minimum, they can set the machine however they like.

the focus on the article included emphasizing the TECHNOLOGY that exists today.....anyone with basic networking and application experience knows that server based systems allow a single (or select few) operators to control vast networks with many many outlets/terminals/stations etc.So its 100% true, in a casino that is on servers, a manager can indeed change or impact or otherwise effect many (or all) games almost instantaneously.

a player who seeks out good games, learns and plays with near perfect
strategy and has the discipline to stay on track can play VP reasonably
cheap.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Yes. That iron triangle must forever be intact. I'm good with a $20 hourly loss, much higher than quarter 9/6 JOB theoretical loss. But we know about that theory. Do not pursue advanced denominations or ATMs.

What odds are you talking about?
In Vegas and AC, casinos put housings saying a machine paid off X amount last month, but I've never seen one saying it will pay X going forward.

I believe he is referring to video poker, and video poker pay tables.

I don't understand why he would think that about video poker machines but I guess superstition isn't very rational. Unless you are playing a video lottery terminal, the payout is in the pay table.

That's about a century when we are talking high technology. All slot machines ( and video poker is a slot machine) are now server based and for sure switch the odds on the fly whenever their highly researched data tells them. I'd like to know how a customer would know if anything was changed??? All that bs about waiting 4 minutes before and after is laughable!!!

You, of course, can point out proof of this, correct?
