I miss the Odessey machines. I enjoyed playing them at the Frontier when it was still around.I was mesmerized by the Odessey novelty machines at Flamingo. People gathered around to urge me to greater losses. I remember one good hit that I promptly played back in. I knew little re strategy and pay tables back then.

The Odyssey's also had Four-Play video poker.  I think it was December 1998 at The Fiesta that I played four-play FPDW.  Fiesta had a promotion where you could get cash for points you ran in December.  I found two machines by the Panda restaurant that were racking points at twice the rate of the others.  And of course I played the 3X and 5X points days.

The machines also had the 101% Jokers but I stuck with the deuces as I didn't know how to play Jokers then.

Mickey, was that the one out at rancho? I've never been but understand inventories are similar at both Fiesta's. Don't know why they removed odessey machines other than they must have cost a bit to maintain them oterwise, they'd still be around. I'm sure there are still some out on the floor somewhere in the US, just not here in Ca. Maybe pahrump or North Nv?

Yes, it was Fiesta Rancho.  Santa Fe also had Odyssey's with full pay games.  So did Arizona Charlie's.  While I was working that promotion at Fiesta I went over to Arizona Charlies to take a look around.  There was a drawing promotion going on and six players had all twelve Odyssey's tied up.  So I left.

Silicon Gaming got into money trouble.  I think they overprojected sales and spent money to fast.  I think it was 2001 that IGT bought them out.  Probably just to put them out of business.  The last Odyssey's I seen anywhere was in the old San Remo just before they got bought out by Hooters.

There was another game we exploited on the Odyssey's.  It was a video slot game called "Hot Reels."

You must be talking about Buccaneer Gold.  It was a bonusing game where daggers were being banked.  There was a dagger on the third reel and when it landed on the line a pirate would show up and stick a dagger in a log.  When you collected 5 daggers you got a bonus.  The standard hustler play was to play the game when they found it with 4 daggers in the log.  One more dagger and you got the bonus.  Some hustlers played them with just 3 daggers in the log.

Yep, thats the one. I was fortunate enough to catch all 5 daggers a couple of times. Only at the Colorado belle. everywhere else that i played it, I had no such luck. Stuck mostly to the 9/7 DB or 8/5 BP. Rekindles a liking for that daggone machine.

I was surprised to see one of those Odyssey machines recently...Maybe AC Harrah's Resorts or Bally's, probably NOT Borgata. I kept on going. IF I remember where I saw it I will let you know. What's the first thing to go?
