Re: Holiday Contest - Dream Card

Post by shadowman »

BTW, I found a problem in the deuces dream card. When dealt 8TQ of hearts if gave a dreamcard of the JH. It should be a deuce. Same thing occurred with the 9TK of spades.

Naturally, the only way to win the contest is to play TDB when you 4K credits for both the RF and the quad aces. I noticed the leader had one of each dealt.

However, to get to the bonus of 5K it is probably more likely on deuces where you get more dream cards and can hit quad deuces more often. I haven't figured this out in detail though.

I disagree.  The hand to aim for is a Royal, not a Royal with deuces.   But if you don't like the dream card dealt, just change it.

No, the hand to aim for is the one that returns the best overall (at least that is the premise of dream card). Yes, I realize I can change it and I did when it occurred the 2nd time and I took the time to check on the returns.

As for the contest, that is a different issue. If you are playing deuces you are not trying to win the contest. You have almost no chance even if you hit a RF and are dealt quad deuces. The strategy playing deuces for this contest is to go over 5000 credits. This is not that hard to do. I've done it without a single set of ducks. In this case I think the best approach is to maximize each hand until such a point that it becomes unreachable without quad deuces, and then start going for the deuces.

shadow,
I agree with your assessment about deuces. I played deuces dreamcard at Red Rock last weekend and found the volatility to be quite low for a"carnival-type" video poker game.
Also, I found the volatility to be quite high for TDB and DDB. I believe the higher percentage of dreamcards in deuces makes the game a very low variance game and can be grinded out a long time as oppossed to the others where a large bankroll will be required to play awhile.

As far as this contest is concerned, the only way to challenge the leader board is to play TDB and hope for at least two dealt hands of RF or 4aces w/k.

Deuces would be my choice in a Casino setting.
Eduardo could I get an Amen on that?

In every contest it's the TDB game that wins.  It would be nice to have a contest where you have a chance to win playing a different game.  How about it Webman?

Another problem with the deuces game. I was dealt KJT of diamonds and the Q of clubs. The dreamcard was a deuce rather than the Q of diamonds. Interestingly, I was dealt 3 to a RF in clubs earlier (I think it was ace high) and the proper dreamcard appeared (I even hit the RF on one line).

EDIT: I was just dealt AQJ4 of spades and the dreamcard was the TS.

EDIT: OK, just had KJT of spades and was given a deuce. So, it appears the problem occurs on King high situations (and maybe Queen high)
