Re: How to deal with beggars in a casino
I had a beggar at an off ramp near a casino here in So. Cal. Now I usually do not give these people money, but I will reward honesty, forethought, and humor in their signs. This person had a sign that said--"Spaceship Needs Fuel." It made me laugh so I flipped them a $5 bill. Another time in Vegas on the median outside the Rio a man had a sign--"Why lie? I need a beer. I did the same for him for his honesty. I just wish some people would make a sign--"Too lazy to work and I need money." Now that would be different.

In response to faygo,
If I am playing video poker and you interupt me, you WILL get punched in the face .
For the beggars on the roadways,
I usually just run them over with my car .

For those of you that want to eventually meet up with damule in Las Vegas he will be easily recognizable: he'll be the only one sitting at a bank of vp games NOT wearing a catchers mask.
Kidding mule, kidding...
Oh and for some reason I never have trouble with beggars coming up to me, I kinda feel left out here, sigh.

Ted, I would be more than happy to beg and plead for just 20.00 more and that's it..I know this is going to hit. Then you shouldn't feel so left out!! And that poor abused ATM could rest a lil.

My parents always taught me the "Golden Rule: treat other people the way you want to be treated." As a principal, I emphasized it with every student in my first day meetings. It is also a sacred part of our marriage. As a result, when I go begging to Ms. L for money she usually will give me a few dollars.

Years ago the Golden Nugget in LV was very good at spotting and removing people asking for money. A lady was telling me a sob sorry about needing rent money and kept looking around for security - they found her.
Another occassion was different. I was sitting at the bar playing video poker at the 4 Queens. A nice (I thought) older gentleman starting up a conversation from a few seats away, then moved over. He watched me turn my original $20 to over $100, then asked for $20 to play so he could get a free drink. I bought him the beer instead of giving the $20 (it was cheaper). I finished my drink and said goodbye. He asked if I was coming back later. My thoughts were - if I do come back, it will be with security.
As for the people on streets with signs. I watched one of these people get out of a brand new car (still with stickers), changed from a nice coat to his "begging" coat for his "shift". Even though I was unemployed, I always gave him a $1 or 2. That day I told him, don't ever approach the car again, and that I thought his brand new car was nice.
Of course, there's a third type of beggar. Those pesky friends that see you win and want some of it to play with.
