MikeA, I think that may be true short term, but not long term.  We had a similar situation here in CO when they first started building the larger casinos in BH/CC.  There was some competition at first in terms of good game selections and paytables, but not anymore.  Now, when a larger casino lowers its paytables most of the others follow suit.

In another recent thread, someone remarked that they complained about that to a casino host or manager and were told that the casino was simply conforming to the practices of other casinos in the area.  As long as a casino doesn't lose much business, there really isn't any reason for it NOT to lower its paytables.  The practice is more the fault of players, not the casinos. There is a certain logic to that CD, but I hope it is not true in this case.  Missouri has had a nut-lock on gaming in this area for a long time now.  Only competition has been the very few Kansas Indian casinos.  None but Prairie Band down around Topeka has given them any competition.Plus, I think there is a real desire in the Legislature to see this gambling issue succeed.  It's been a very long time coming and I do think they see the positive impact it "could" have on the budget for roads and schools.  To make things work out the way they wish, it will be to their advantage to be more appealing than the Missouri casinos that are located just across the river.  And, if they do come on strong, then I would think that the Missouri casinos in KC would have to respond.  A win-win for the players though it is my humble opinion that less than 5% of the players have any idea what a pay table or good table rules are and how they influence their overall success!

Sounds a little like price fixing. If collusion could be determined then there may be legal options. Any lawyers out there who could comment?

indian casinos operate under "tribal law" vp machines are not regulated as much as Nevada or NJThat's one reason that we are very excited (us Kansans) about the casinos that are not Tribal.  However, I've been pretty impressed with Sac-And-Fox and The Golden Eagle.  No full pay video poker, but they have some acceptable Blackjack.  S-N-F has a 6-deck game that is S17 with $5 mins and around 70% pen.The only VP worth playing is at Golden Eagle.  Nickel denomination only.   They have 9/7 DB.  That's as good as it gets anywhere I know of in northern Kansas and Missouri.  However, KC, Missouri does have Isle of Capri that has AA for quarters full pay.  They also have a variety of nickel DB 9/6/5 with 1000 for aces and 400 for St-Fl that comes in at over 99%.And I've heard that Prairie Band about 15 miles north of Topeka also has full pay quarter AA.The pickins are very slim to none in our area.

I hope you're right.  Let us know what the various pays look like when the new places open up.

Serious question - has anyone here ever seen a casino UP their paytables after they've been lowered?  I've never seen it done here in CO.

MikeA,
I haven't been to the Golden Eagle Casino for 4-6 months but when I was there I was sure they also had 9/7/5 DB both at quarters and dollars because I actually played them at both denominations.  Only a few machines had them and I had to look for them...they have a lot of old VP machines there, but the "newer" (relatively speaking) Game Kings had the 9/7/5 DB on them, I think.  I live over 300 miles from there so I doubt I will be seeing that place again anytime soon, though.

~Benford's LawI will check the next time I'm there, but the last time there (several months ago), I sure didn't see anything close to 99% except for the four nickel machines in the far back (northeast corner).  I sure hope you are right!

MikeA,
I'm pretty sure I am right about this, because if Golden Eagle is still keeping a lot of old VP machines around that don't even have the "touch screen" feature available, it tells me that it is a struggling Indian reservation that is keeping a fairly tight restraint on machine inventory replacement expenses so they can divert more profits directly towards the tribe.  Hence, it is unlikely they remove or put in any new machines very often.  Just check out all the red-colored upright Game King machines you see there.
Personally, I think the place is a dump compared to Prairie Band....but I might pop in there on rare occasions.
I'd be interested in hearing if I was right about this.  Good luck!

Prairie Band is nice as a hotel and also esthetically as a casino.  But their table games are just rotten.  I think the only $5 tables they have are 6:5 Blackjack.  Not too bad at $25 minimums.  The only Full Pay they have that I know of is quarter All American Poker.  They do have 9/6/5 DB that pays 1000 for Aces and 400 for Str Flush (99%+ game).  But, they do have a fantastic hotel and those outdoor hot-tubs are wonderful as are the rooms.  Yes, in comparison, Golden Eagle is a dump to the eye.  But they have a pretty good double-deck $10 BJ table and a $3 6-deck game along with higher limit BJ.  I will definitely check for the 9/7 DB on quarters on all machines the next time I'm up there.  It'll be a while though for we are headed for Vegas the first week of October.  After that, I'm not sure.  It's an all day commitment for me to drive up there and there really isn't a good place to stay close to Horton.  Many times, we've stayed free at Prairie Band and dropped a couple of bucks into the machines and then driven the 30 miles or so on up to Horton.

The pathetic part of a $1200 win is that you can't even deduct from it the cost of the spin!  And deductions for losses are an itemization on tax-if you take the standard deduction you can't claim them. Just remember $1000 won nets you more than $1200.
