Re: Robbed in parking lot
The problem with alarm systems is it has become so common for them to be sounding off (here in NY anyway) that nobody even pays attention to them. I suppose it might scare the criminals off though. Trained criminals no how to disable them.

As I've said before, we are living in the "last days", so crime is supposed to go up and become increasingly worse and worse no matter what anyone does or says.....I am not telling you how to live your life Ko King but I would seriously reconsider leaving ANYTHING of value in your truck except when absolutely positively unavoidably necessary! And even then, conceal it to the best of your ability. The only way to prevent the theft of a vehicle is to get one of those "dead switches", the mechanism that totally locks down a vehicle's ability to start unless the owner unlocks or disables the mechanism. Does anyone out there have any experience with one of these things?

Years ago I had a Mercury Tracer hatchback and as I was driving down the street an elderly woman came off a side street and t-boned the rear of the vehicle (no one was hurt - think of a torpedo heading towards a submarine and you will get the picture). When the car (Tracer) came to a stop after spinning like a top, it would not start up again - I learned later it was because it had a dead switch to prevent a gas explosion. So a lot of cars probably already have this and maybe it can be hacked to allow manual activation in addition to its activation only upon impact. As far as the "last days" go, only the willfully ignorant or those with IQs below 70 don't realize that this is happening. I get panhandled at least 3 times a day.As I've said before, we are living in the "last days", so crime is supposed to go up and become increasingly worse and worse no matter what anyone does or says.....I am not telling you how to live your life Ko King but I would seriously reconsider leaving ANYTHING of value in your truck except when absolutely positively unavoidably necessary! Hallelujah, free upgrade! Until I found out about its comparable dead switch technology. Expensive paperweight. Makes a nice coaster too.

I get panhandled at least 3 times a day. +1 Excellent point sirI am not one of these "doomsday" cultists ceaselessly harping that "the end is nigh' ...." but you and I are in agreement Asteroid; it is painfully obvious that Biblical prophecy and the predictions that Jesus himself made 2000 years ago while he was engaged in his ministry are coming to fruition. As I may have mentioned earlier, read 2Timothy Chapter three, verses 1 thru 6 and try and convince yourself it's not happening as we speak!I wont go or elaborate further as this is the wrong section for it, but anyone wishing to continue this discussion please feel free to start another thread in the ANYTHING & EVERYTHING section!

Thanks Daburglar. My last post on this subject here too since it's off topic: When you see "for lease" signs at virtually every strip mall and people on street corners even in very affluent areas with signs asking for handouts (I keep a 24 pack of water in the back seat and toss them a bottle out the window ) you quickly realize it is not rocket science that the main stream media is full blown lying about the economy. AI, robotics and overpopulation figure prominently . . .I wonder if the AI experts will be hiring the displaced truckers for their modeling teams once their (the truckers) jobs are replaced with self-driving delivery trucks.

Many cars and trucks today already come with "chip' keys as well as factory security systems. Some disable the vehicle entirely while some will allow the vehicle to start but only stay running for a short time then shut down until the proper key is used or in close enough proximity to communicate with the system. Many "spare" keys will allow you to manually unlock the doors but will not start the engine. This is to allow entry by the owner (or locksmith if they produce one) in the event you lock your keys in the car. I wouldn't doubt that there is a way for professional criminals to hack this or they will figure it out soon.
The discussion here is more about breaking in the vehicle to steal items inside but not necessarily take the vehicle itself. Sadly nothing short of an armor exoskeleton will prevent a determined thief. Locks are for honest people. Maybe get a few pet venomous snakes or electrify the car body. But then you must assume the risk that the poor thief or their family might sue if they have a heart condition from all the drugs they've consumed and dies of the resulting heart attack.

Or you could not leave anything in sight for a thief to want to break into your car. A thief passes by hundreds of cars and doesn't break into them . He picks one because he sees something that interests him.

A reading from The Book of Tedlark1, Chapter III, Verse I and II:
"A "dead switch" in a vehicle can easily be defeated simply by towing the vehicle, tow trucks can pick up a vehicle in less than 5 seconds."
This has been a reading from The Book of Tedlark1.

This has been a reading from The Book of Tedlark1.Did you actually read 2Timothy chapter 3, before you mocked and launched into another self-amusing potshot? The topics being discussed and touched upon in this thread are actually extremely important and relevant especially in today's world, and they provide people with both a lot of answers to questions many have, as well as raise a lot of questions people need to be asking themselves and others, especially their so-called "leaders" in both politics as well as spiritual.Asteroid just adeptly summarized something that I have been lamenting and bringing forth from time to time, namely just where all these JOBS that everyone keeps looking for have actually GONE.Automation.....robotics.....computers.....the internet......in the last 20 years these concepts, as well as a few other management philosophies and business trends, have eliminated MILLIONS of jobs that previously could be counted on to employ the average American. Why this does not get the full attention and "credit" for the current state of American employment dynamics (and politics) is beyond me.......why is it so much easier for typical Americans (almost always white and male) to "blame" foreigners for stealing jobs? It's only getting worse, with the new driverless vehicles, proliferation of drones delivering just about EVERYTHING, with more and more shopping and commerce happening online such that what few malls remain will soon be in jeopardy. Kmart, Sears, JC Penney....ALL GONE. And with them goes all the vendors who used to sell and stock them, all their warehousing and transportation operations are GONE (think of all the typical average americans who drive a forklift or truck all day, who might work in the Operations department for a KMart or Sears, what does that typical individual look and appear like in your mind? Now picture him in a "make America Great AGain" hat and you see the problem in this country......)
