Re: Casino Video Poker Etiquette
Aww, you guys just reiterated EVERYTHING that bug and annoy me. For the last 2 years, I have bought the BOSE Noise cancelling ear phones (you know, the ones that make you look like a pilot ready to take off) but man, they work just great! That eliminates one or two of the problems stated above, but the smoking is the worst!! It is so beyond rudeness to plant yourself next to someone and just light up! This is where the headphones really come in handy. You talk so loud with them on, and you don't realize it, but boy, everybody around you hears it! I have practically cleared out an entire row of smokers in short order. Rudeness and disregard for other players does warrant a smack down. You don't care about me, you are going to hear about it.

<DIV style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt">I've received more than a few $100s out of the change machine that looked funny to me. It didn't surprise me as Florida probably has more fake bills running around than anywhere else in the country. So far, if the machine won't take them the cashier has. I once came very close to having a fist fight with a player smoking a big stinky cigar. It would have been funny to watch as we both were well into our sixties. After that incident, I just move on and forget it.
<DIV style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt">Button punching people are really annoying; especially the people who type with the hold buttons a dozen times on each deal. I watched someone do that for 20 minutes and was amazed they had any finger tips left. Smokers who allow their smoke to drift onto your face are the worst. It seems it's always a nice looking woman sucking on a cigarette like there's no tomorrow. I wonder if they realize how unattractive that is? Uck! As you could image, I tend to move around a lot.
I hear you Phil on the above. Funny, we are both well into our 60's and I have come close like you a couple of times. The only reason I thought better of it is that at Mohegan, no matter who started or caused what, everyone involved gets thrown out and sometimes banned as well. I like you moved on, but I wouldn't like to have taken my blood pressure reading at that moment.

It looks like you can carry a gun in a Florida casino after all. Keep your head down!
FL state statue states:
285.16 Civil and criminal jurisdiction; Indian reservation.—
(1) The State of Florida hereby assumes jurisdiction over criminal offenses committed by or against Indians or other persons within Indian reservations and over civil causes of actions between Indians or other persons or to which Indians or other persons are parties rising within Indian reservations.
(2) The civil and criminal laws of Florida shall obtain on all Indian reservations in this state and shall be enforced in the same manner as elsewhere throughout the state.

You can't carry onto or into any property that bans them. Illinois is having growing pains with their new concealed carry law that went into effect in March of this year. If there is a sign at the entrance of the casino banning firearms then you can't bring in your Saturday night special. This also goes for the: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday night specials too.

Hmmm.... I thought the Tribe's Police had jurisdiction.
Here is from the "Handgunlaws.us" website, last updated 5/22/2014..
"If you are carrying a firearm with a permit/license that is valid in the state the reservation is located in that permit/license may not be valid on the Reservation. They will most likely take the firearm and tell you that you can go to Tribal Court to get it back. Some say as long as you stay on the state roads through a Reservation you are OK but some Tribes ordinances state you can’t carry a firearm in a vehicle or on the roads on their Reservation. Tribal Police in most instances work closely with the Local Law Enforcement surrounding the Reservation. If you are breaking a state firearms law they will most likely hold you and contact the local authorities. Handgunlaw.us recommends before carrying on any Reservation that you actually talk to those in charge and preferably get something in writing that your permit/license is valid on their reservation. Otherwise keep it unloaded and secured in your trunk or locked box in the back of a vehicle that does not have a trunk."
Ted is probably right, though. I have seen signs banning both concealed and openly carried firearms at just about every casino that I have visited, Native American or not.

Except Vegas. I don't think I have seen a single sign there.
It's against state law in Missouri; I definitely would expect Illinois to follow suit if they haven't already. I don't think any Tunica casino allows them either, but I don't believe it's a state law.
As for how I feel about this restriction, I'm not sure. Because banning them really won't stop most of the people you would worry about having them in the casino in the first place. If everyone would magically abide by the rule, then it's a no-brainer to have it.

I'm totally neutral on the gun thing in Florida. We have so many low lifes running around that I can see why someone would want a gun for protection. On the other hand, we have people who will shoot you for eating pop corn too loudly in a theater. I don't want one because I might shoot a cigar smoker one day and it's not worth the trouble.
