OK I'll share a story.  A few years ago after having a bad run of luck I
had myself barred out of the casino. They call it "Self Exclusion".
Basically you sign a contract stating you wish to get barred from
gambling there for a year or whatever and they take your photo etc. Once
you are barred if you are caught on the property you will be arrested
for trespassing and they don't have to pay you if you hit a jackpot.I
was good for awhile but then started sneaking back in figuring they
long ago forgot me. Anyway, since I was barred out and would be arrested
if I was caught I would throw away any chances of hitting a royal flush
since that would result in being asked for ID etc. So there I
was one day minding my own business playing the old Double Double Bonus
game at $5 a hand. I hit "Deal" and it just deals me a Royal Flush! The
machine freezes up the screens saying, "Jackpot $4000! Call Attendant!"
The light on top the machine is flashing and the bells ringing. My
reaction is "DAMN IT!"

um... you can't stop the story there.

Usually the next part of the story is frantically asking your machine neighbor to take the handpay for ~half the money.

But yes, I would be interested to hear how that turned out.

But yes, I would be interested to hear how that turned out.   LOL. Sounds like you've been in this situation before.  Yes that is exactly what I did. I very quickly explained my situation to the lady sitting at the machine next to me who I had seen there a few times and had a nodding, "How you doing today?", acquaintanceship with to claim the jackpot for me. I didn't offer her half but told her I'd give her something. She went over to her husband who was a couple of machines away and talked to him and she came back and said she couldn't help me. So here comes the slot attendant. "Congratulations! Can I have your drivers license? What's your social security number? Do you want taxes taken out? Cash or a check?...I'll be right back with your winnings!"  I see her head off to where-ever they go with my drivers license in hand and I'm sitting there pondering my options. As soon as she goes to the office or where-ever my name is gonna come up on the screen as barred and I'll be in a world of sh*t! From where I was I could see all the way across the casino floor and I decided if I saw her returning with a couple of security guards I was gonna head out the back entrance to the garage. After about 5 minutes I see her coming back towards me with a piece of paper, a bunch of money and one of those yellow "I won big at Hollywood Casino!" t-shirts in her hand. She just paid me and I signed the W2-G and gave her a small tip. Nothing happened!  Not wishing to tempt fate as soon as she was gone. I got up and told the lady who had refused to help me she could have the $70 worth of credits I still had on my machine and out the door I goes. I was happy to have won but disappointed they didn't seem to take their self exclusion policy as seriously as I had hoped. But that was then and they have changed and upgraded the system since then. I am sure a similar experience today would end up differently.

I've never self excluded and never have got a handpay. I'd really like to change the latter thing. It just was an educated guess based on every story of this type I've read before. And that is pretty bad of Hollywood to not catch you. What's the point of a list if they don't actually enforce it?

I know of people who are self-excluded hit jackpots and got paid. But why $5 DDB? All quads, SF and royals are signers.

A buddy of mine was at HH and saw a lady hit a $1 royal. He congratulated her and she said "you take it!" He sat down and sure enough got paid. He sat around a while thinking she would want half of it back. But, she never returned. Either she was banned or had outstanding IRS debts or was arrears in child support. Who knows?

Once while waiting on a HP, I noticed the attendants computer has a child support state website on the screen.

.  Sorry I typed that wrong. Was playing the $1 DDB which is $5 a hand so only 4 aces and a kicker or RF are taxable.  Oddly in my life I've gotten like 10 RFs on this game but have never gotten the 4 A's and a kicker

OK since it seems everyone else posts all the stories about hitting big jackpots and royals (I have stories like that as well) I will continue with another video poker nightmare story in hopes someone else can relate.  So there I was at the old Charlestown Races and Slots (Before Hollywood Casino took it over) playing my favorite Triple Ace Poker game.. I had just arrived and put in my usual $200 to start. I always put $200 in right off the bat to save putting in $20 after $20 or whatever. Anyway before they changed the software on these machines the max bet was 20 credits at 25 cents a credit. At the time it paid 4500 credits for a straight flush on a 20 bet. $1125 which kept you under the taxable limit. So I was there only 10-15 minutes and hit a straight flush.  Now I'm like $1200 up after just 15 minutes! Cool    I figure, I drove 90 minutes to get here I can't leave now and I'm way up I'll keep playing on their money. So to make a loooong story shorter...Now here it is 9 hours later. I had lost back the $1200 I won PLUS another $1000 of my own money!   By this point I'm in a daze after playing non-stop for 9 hours with only time off to wander from one bank of machines with that game to the other on the opposite side of the casino. My head is buzzing from the non-stop machine sounds all around me and my vision is blurring from staring at video poker screens for 9 hours. I wander across the casino to the one row of machines nearest the garage and put in a $100 bill and start up again. I'm in a state of shock and cursing myself for being stupid and greedy after being up $1200 and now I'm $1100 in the hole. So in effect I have $2300 less than I could have had. I keep pushing the buttons and finally get dealt the 4-5-6-8 of spades and a queen or something. I beg the poker Gods to have pity on me and press the "draw" button and there it was.....  7 of spades!!!  I hit the straight flush!  I've never done a powerful drug but I assume the feeling must be something like what I felt at that moment. I went from $1100 down to $50 up in a split second. OMG I was so happy! I cashed out and staggered out of there with my head ringing and my $50 profit which would pay for my gas, tolls and breakfast (Never had lunch or dinner). When I left the casino it was now dark out. I had been there 10 hours total.

I get 2 royals on the same machine, same day about once per year. Sometimes they're only a few hands apart. My most recent was this May when I drew 3 cards for a royal twice, about an hour apart. But my most unique was last February when I discarded the entire hand and drew 5 new cards for the royal. Then, a few hundred hands later, I was dealt a royal! Note that in the first picture that there are no holds - this was the hand I drew the royal after discarding the dealt cards. The second picture has 5 holds - that's the dealt royal.

I know that getting dealt a royal happens, on the average about every 625,000 hands. I know that you can draw 5 new cards for a Royal every time you discard 5, but how often does that happen? And how often do you get one followed closely by the other? Most unbelievable in my experience, probably won't happen again for me.

I can't seem to be able to upload the pictures.

But was it worth $1,150 to tell the tale years later? I hope that you have wised up since. And that we all wise up before similar boom and bust odysseys plague us. Any significant hit and I get a check. I'm usually doing quarter JOB, so that's just a RF hit. But that gets deposited at HQ without reservation. I recently had a SF bailout myself. I would have preferred having the good sense to get the hell out in the first place.
