Re: Tipping on Hand Pays

I laugh at the guy who willingly gets short-payed on flushes and full houses but thinks tipping $20 on a royal is "stupid."I witnessed a handpay for the first time at Rampart yesterday.  Guy next to me was dealt Aces on 10c 10-line for $2000.  It wasn't pretty.  The slot guy was full of congratulations, asked for a high-five from the player, was full of "wow, what a good hit" comments.  I've never seen anything like it.  Obvious tip hustling.  I didn't see what he tipped them, if anything.

I think some of you are just cheap azzes and have a hard time admitting to it.  Whereas Billyjoe is a well mannered gambler.
Thanks, PNut. I do try and have good manners. I do not, though, think of myself as a 'gambler', but more of a 'player'. It is true that a hard-core gambler would never think of tipping anyone, since it cuts into his 'edge' in his game of choice. A hard-core gambler will not play unless he thinks he has the edge.

I dont know if the APs leave tips on handpays or not, but if they do then they are dummies. Here we have them bloviating on and on about a little edge here, a little egde there by "smart-valuing" their slot club things, yet if they tip handpays some or all of that "advantage" goes up in smoke. Maybe thats why Frank or Bob D. are staying away from this one.

Dumb is getting short-paid on every flush or full house.

Actually, it does matter.  The infrequent big hits wiil, indeed, come along every now and then, no matter what the pay table is.  But, if the play between the big hits is on inferior pay tables, your bottom line will be less.

billyjoe says he likes to refer to himself as a 'player' not a 'gambler'. The casinos do a similar thing also, they don't call it 'gambling' they call it 'gaming'. So according to the casinos lingo we could also refer to ourselves as 'gamers'

You can call yourselves whatever you prefer but it doesn't change what the activity really is which is gambling. Advantage player or not. I think people just want to feel a sense of superiority or knowledge when they label themselves or activities in other terms.

Just one cats opinion

I do tip when getting a handpay--and I'm with billyjoe, it's $20 regardless of the amount. I also tip the drink waitress--I don't think that makes me dumb, I think it makes me grateful. Especially the waitresses--they're not paid very much and I think depend on the tips, and frankly, I think it's a lousy job, they're on their feet all shift and they have to take crap from lots of drunks, so I'm happy to give them a buck or two for a drink.

Thats just theory. Actually, I was doing very well prior to that hit also. What happened afterwards is not known yet until I play again, but I could get just as lucky, effectively destroying all theories and theorists at the same time.
