If you are consistently losing $50,000 a year playing video poker, you should seek help.
Unless you are living at Harrah's and taking full advantage of their Seven Stars membership and not paying for your housing and meals.
In reality, losses like that indicate a giant hole in your game, but most likely, you refuse to recognize it.
Many people here seem to live in their own reality and justify it by saying they've been losing for years, which somehow makes them experts.
Nope. It simply comes down to life choices. The game is played properly. The percentage of the loss is about correct. We have no debt and are not that materialistic. Vp has been fun but like me, its getting old. Time for new things, travel etc. before we can't.
If you are losing $1000 a week and think that playing single coin is helping you lose less, there is something seriously wrong.

Billly you may either mixing up my posts or are not reading everything. If I play single coin, it is because the machine I play pays the correct amount for the Royal for even bet 1. That means I can bet less than 5 coins and not get jipped.

I can attest to have seen pictures of the Bonus Deuces Wild Spin Poker that pays 800 for 1 on the single coin dollars. That is cheaper than max 5 coin quarters!

So, playing 99%plus games, you are losing $1,000 a week?
Seriously? You are banking $5 million a year in coin in?
I'm not getting it. Aren't you the guy who changes machines after a $20 loss?
What kind of cash and free play are you getting on that kind of play?

This says it all.
Phil, I will use myself as an example of what you are saying. Assuming I play 99.54% games perfectly all year at my current and soon to be distant play level I lose 50k a year. I stay over at Mohegan and Foxwoods 100 nights a year or so. Some of the rooms are suites. If I value the rooms and suites at 200 bucks a night which is very conservative, I get 20k back there in retail value. Food comps are at least another 15k retail a year. Free play, shows, free gas, special events, gifts and misc other freebies add up to at least 20k more retail which puts me ahead for the year. Hmmmmm. However, in 5 years, if I wasn't playing at all I could buy a beautiful 2nd home down in your neck of the woods for 250k worth at least 50k more than my current little home in Ct. on a 50x100 lot. All of this has been my choice for sure, and following Dancer, I would be ahead. The big picture however, one can see for themselves. Now stretch this out for 20 years. After the first 5 I would have the 2nd home in Florida. I would be able to buy and maintain 2 new luxury or sports cars every couple of years, take really nice vacations and on and on. That is the big picture. I just want the newer players who have visions of playing at a high level and raking the coin in to see the real story. Now, I have no regrets, but for me it is time to tone things way down. That is our choice too. Life is about choices. I hope the new player out there will make the right ones for their wants and needs.
olds enjoyed this lifestyle for the last 5 years and knows to tone it down as it is not substainable. I also recall olds made some great financial decisions in the past to allow this kind of lifestyle.

Billy you have to read these posts more carefully. You are getting people mixed up, things they have said or haven't said mixed up and so forth. My method of play is usually Martingale clone of my own design most of the time. My bets can be as low as a qurter and as high as 20 bucks a hand. Got too expensive and I am tapering it way back. The free stuff has been nice, but at nearly 70 years old, it is time to not cut into the savings any longer and do other things. If my bets are just a quarter, it is because I have found a machine that pays 800 for bet 1 for the Royal.

I'm reading them right as far as you saying you lost $50,000 a year. Your numbers simply don't seem to add up.
I do support your decision to cut way back as something seems very wrong.

Yes, that part is correct Bill. The rest or part of your other post I think you have me mixed up with Phil. Losing 50k a year is not difficult even with perfect play. I don't always play 99% machines but my average is being conservative at say 98%. I go to the casino 3 days a week usually overnights. My sessions are long and my average bet is about 3 bucks a hand. In any given week, I play easily 17000 hands or about 5,000 to 6,000 a session. I play at least 600 hands per hour and probably more. My average bet is about 3 bucks a hand. Sometimes dollars and sometimes quarters but the quarter machines allow bets of over 6 bucks a hand. Anyway, 17,000 hands x 3 bucks a hand is 51,000 dollars a week run through the machines. Playing an average 98% game or a loss of 2 percent gives you a weekly loss on those 51,000 bucks cycled through of 1,020 dollars or at least 50k a year.
Edited to add that in one sense, I am very fortunate in that the casino where I play has a few machines that pay over 98% and nearly 99 percent and pay out the correct amount for the Royal with even bet 1. or 800 for one. That option is only found on spin poker machines, but there is nothing saying that you have to play more than one line either when playing spin poker.
