I got a Resorts email about the reporting change also. It must have been sent to all cardholders, as my past play was devoid of hand pays. This casino will take advantage of every opportunity to check in with its suckers.

And Resorts is unique with this?

Bummer. I was hoping that $2000 wins would not get a tax form. $2000.01 would be huge - no tax on 50 cent royals or AWAKS.
If casinos want to make gamblers happy, they can configure a new special pay table. It will pay 399-for-1 (or 1,995-for-5 credits) similar to how the 239-for-1 Straight Flush pay structure works for $5 games.

I don't think casinos really give a hoot about gamblers happiness. Wouldn't changing paytables change return?

They should, since if we become really unhappy, we won't go to the casino anymore. Reducing the payout for a particular hand to avoid the paperwork will affect the game return a tiny bit, but since the change would be in the casino's favour, you wold think they would be more than happy to do it.

Makes sense to me, but then again much of what they do makes no sense to most of us. My favorite example is with VP players. Many of us, myself included that play 99 percent machines most of the time leave more money at the casino for the year than we sometimes care to talk about. That pattern can stretch many years as well. So why remove those machines or reduce the pay tables? If they think we are going to just play regular mindless slots, think again. My best example is here in Ct. One casino removed the 99 percent quarter games years ago. The other casino still has some. I haven’t set foot in that first casino in 7 years.

According to Kiplinger and other sources, so far all legislation at fixing the gambling deduction fiasco has stalled in committee, but there is considerable pressure to move the legislation forward. When someone asked President Trump about removing tax on gambling income, he did say he would have to think about it. IMO, the best we can hope for right now is to restore the deduction to 100 percent from the current 90. IMO also, it makes no sense that you have to itemize your deductions to write off gambling losses. Just another way to tax Phantom income as far as I’m concerned.
