Anyone Play at Del Lago Casino in the New York Fingerlakes Area?

Post by videosteve »

I was studying up on playing video poker as my friend I usually go with to the casino always hits the BlackJack table when we are there. I play that sometimes but would like to do something else as well so I took up learning video poker. I went to Del Lago to check it out just to see what they had as that is the closest casino near me. They had about 25 video poker machines there so I started scanning them to see the payout tables. Most were 8-5's but they had a couple 7-5's there as well. I think I even saw one 7-4. They had no 9-6's whatsoever. They had about 5 or 6 machines that were disabled by the attendant and said you had to contact him if you wanted to play on it. I was wondering if some of these might have been 9-6 machines. Has anyone else been to Del Lago and actually seen any 9-6 machines there? Attendance there was low as the coronavirus is still taking its toll in that region and I noticed they upped the minimum bet on their table games a lot compared to what they used to be. I'm thinking they did that to bring in more money since there are so few patrons there. I thought they might have reprogrammed their video poker machines lower for the same reason.

9-6....what games? Not all games have 9-6 pay tables Bonus poker for example you look for 8-5. I doubt you will find much good VP in New York state.

These days when a machine is disabled it's usually for social distancing reasons.

The casino's vpfree2 page is empty except for a comment mentioning 7-5 Jacks, 25c.

Did you look in the high limit area? On another forum, a trip report from 2017 mentioned 9-5 Jacks, $1 denomination (and above) in high limit. That's probably where you'll find the best pay schedules.

Hey dinghy. Thanks for the advice. When I was there though, the High Limit area was closed. They barely had enough people in the rest of the casino to warrant having the tables open let alone another section for the high limit area. If they opened the high limit area at the time I was there, they would have had to hire another person to come in and disinfect it. Again, they barely had enough workers there to disinfect the standard areas of the casino. They were able to handle any high rollers by upping the normal table max bets, such as the blackjack table they had open with a $100 minimum bet . Only one woman was at it playing so they could have certainly fit more in. They certainly could open the high limit area up again during busier times as when I was there, it was around noon on a Monday and a Friday. At those times, that's usually when they draw the retiree crowd. (More so Monday than a Friday.) I would think the people who patronize the high limit areas come in at night and the weekends, even in these Covid times. But I could be wrong as I'm not a casino expert. The next time I'm there, I'll have to specifically check out the high limit area. Their floor plan changed when they brought the sports betting parlor in.

As for the machines being closed down because of social distancing, that could also be but I tend to doubt it. Some VP machines that were working were right next to each other, although they did have plexiglass panels between the machines. And some of the machines that were disabled were also next to each other. There was no "working", "disabled", "working", "disabled" rhyme or reason sequence that I could see that would make me think it was due to social distancing. Anyway, thanks for the advice on the high limit area.

In Nevada, the big operators have managed demand by shuttering entire casinos. For over two months during summer, all bartop machines were shut down on governor's orders. It's tough to find playable games when the selection is artificially limited.

I think those sanitation standards you mention will loosen up over time. Am I correct that Del Lago is non-smoking? On its worst day, Del Lago is probably cleaner than anything in Nevada.

Yes. State regulations prohibit indoor smoking.

We go to Del Lago at least monthly. The hotel is excellent, we always get comped. Never a problem. Tuesday you can get $50 in freeplay with minimal effort. And Wednesday mornings they have $50 free play drawings every half hour, as well as free Unbelievably delicious pastries from a local bakery.
One of our favorite casinos anywhere!
