deuces wild just holding deuces
I find that I get much better hands if I hold deuces and throw everything else away. For example 3 hearts plus a deuce. I throw the hearts away. I will hold the deuces if it is a winning hand but if I have to draw for a win, I don't. The only time I would hold for a win if I was one from a royal flush with or without deuces. Has anyone played this way. I was playing on this site and hit four deuces twice plus five of a kinds, multiple quads. I must admit, I havn't tried it in a casino. But I notice that I almost never get the card I am trying for so I figured I would try something else.

Deuces are great to hold, but you definitely don't want to only hold them. Do you have a strategy program like video poker for winners?

No I don't Eduardo. I play correctly when I am in a casino and I am using money but sometimes I just get so frustrated that I decided to try something else.

Would'nt that kill your ev if you only kept the 2's? 4 card wild flushes and boats come up fairly frequently but I don't play too much NSUD or DWB

Yes, it would hurt your expected return a good amount I'd imagine. It might pay off once in a while and seem like a good idea, but this will hurt you in the long run.
Having said that, there are indeed a lot of times when you DO throw all the cards but the deuces playing correct strategy. But you want to know when the correct time to do that is, don't settle in on a "deuces only" strategy or you will end up paying for it.
Off hand, here are a few of the hands you do probably do NOT want to throw away...
4 to a straight flush with either 1 or 2 deuces
3 to a straight flush with a single deuce
3 to a royal flush with a deuce (not just 4 to a royal as you said)
But for the most part, holding just the deuces DOES end up being the correct play, when you get them. But some of the more important strategy plays to learn in this game are when you aren't dealt any deuces at all... it's not like jacks or better or some other games in those times because your odds at hitting a straight flush, for instance, include the deuces that are in the deck and not just a single card you might be waiting for.

This thread demonstrates the importance of, not only playing correct strategy, but understanding what a strategy is doing.
On any VP hand there are a total of 32 possible holds. Of these 32 there may be 1-5 that might seem reasonable. If you look up the relative payback you will see the positions 2-5 aren't necessarily all that bad. They may only be a few tenths of a percentage worse than the best hold. Because of this there MUST be many draws that will fit best with these holds. But, if you decide to go for a statistically worse hold, say number 3, then there are still 4 other holds that could get hit.
The net of this is you will see many times when the "best" hold appears to be losing. This is because you are comparing it to many other possible holds where the sum of them will always get hit more often, but NOT any one of them.
Unless a person can predict what cards will be drawn they will do better over time picking the best statistical hold.
PS. I'm not aware of any DW game where 4 to a flush including a deuce is better than holding the lone deuce.

That's correct, of course. You hold 4 to a flush with no deuces but if there is a wild in there you are better off holding just that. Also, I edited my post above with a few examples.

Yikes Valden, I've done it playing DDB and JOB because nothing seemed to be coming up. No, I did'nt gain anything except experience. Occasionally a card(s) will come up when you stray from your perfect play strategy but don't count on it. Dry spells stink and are VERY frustrating but DDB players have become accustomed to it.

Yes, usually 1 deuce ends up being held alone, but to do that means throwing away 3k very often, which would kill you.

SM
4 to a Flush including a deuce is the proper hold in "Bonus Deuces".
Edit to include EV: Flush Hold 4.7872
Lone Deuce 4.7198
