I haven't studied jacks or better much, but without cheating and looking at the correct answer, I would guess to hold 3 to the royal.

Edit: and after cheating () I can see there are a few holds that give a better average return. Shows what I know about jacks or better (I always undervalue the +5 "jacks or better" hand returns it seems)

But... there are several "good" holds that are all fairly close in return value. But the correct hold (which I will not mention until you want to give the answer) is indeed .6 higher so looks like the best play in the long run. Fortunately I would not have paid a huge price for my mistake, however.

Yeah i thought you would hold the 3 to the royal also but was wrong.  I have a cheat card that says hold for the royal also. so wouldn't hold for the royal for the chance to hit it.

Always hold the high pair(J,Q,K,A) unless the 3 card royal is in succession IE;TJQ,JQK,QKA suited. 3 card royals with a gap have a slightly lower EV than the high pair does, at least in DDB and I would guess it isn't too much different in JOB.

I'd say trash them all and hope for a royal on the draw.
Trick the machine into thinking you don't know how to play. Reverse psycology i think it is called.

Ed,I think it's a little different with JOB (9/6) than with DDB (10/6).  JOB is a pretty simple strategy with not nearly as much to remember compared to the "bonus games".According to VPWWith JOB 9/6The ER for any High Pair (J-A) is 7.68.The ER for any combination of 3RF is 6.999.So you would always hold high pair.  They are back to back on the strategy charts and the difference is pretty small. In DDB 10/6 there is more to it isn't there!13        HIGH PAIR A           9.64198814        TWO PAIR               8.82978715        RF3 'KQJ'                7.39418916        HIGH PAIR K           7.28122117        RF3 'QJT'                 7.37021218        HIGH PAIR J-Q        7.28122119        RF3 'AHH'; 'KHT'      6.93072320        FL4 2h; 1h; 0h       6.09561521        RF3 'AHT'                6.525929
