3 HOUR Bankroll session for VP
Hi all, at my local casino they offer 8/5 JOB and 6/5 Bonus Poker. How much of a session bankroll do you recommend for each game playing .25. thanks!

There's probably a tool for this somewhere, but I have a crude method. Start with the Wizard's video poker analyzer output. This is for 8/5 JOB:Reddog1966 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2025 4:58 pmHow much of a session bankroll do you recommend for each game playing .25.

Identify the rare outcomes (circled red). Deduct the associated return contributions (circled purple) from the overall return (also purple).
The result is 0.89, which is the estimated return when failing to hit a quad or better. Deduct from 1, and you get an 11% loss rate. Apply that to your total coin-in, which would be $3000 assuming 3 hours at 800 hands per hour. Bankroll requirement is $330.
But what are the chances of going quadless? (422/423) ^ 2400 hands = 0.3%.
That's a worst-case scenario. So it's very rare that you would bust through the entire $330.
The Bonus Poker bankroll would be a little higher because of the lower return and increased contribution of quads.

I think this is an excellent summation for the question asked without any judgement. I was going to offer a suggestion of 200 bucks and find a different venue but that was based on an even cruder method, so I deferred. I know there are complex calculations for "risk of ruin" and associated bankroll requirements, if you want a more exact figure do a search. Given the bet level I'm not sure real life outcomes wouldn't be more educational. Good luck.

In Northern CA all the "local" Indian Casinos are on the same page. I have not found ONE VP machine with favorable returns for .25. I appreciate both responses!! thanks all.

There must have been a glitch in the internet.TripleTriple wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 9:40 amI think this is an excellent summation for the question asked without any judgement.
Standy by, judgment is surely inbound.

Oh, and... GOOD LUCK!

That's annoying. It's pretty much the same on the Vegas Strip.Reddog1966 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 21, 2025 10:04 amIn Northern CA all the "local" Indian Casinos are on the same page. I have not found ONE VP machine with favorable returns for .25.
I'll just mention that sometimes you can find higher returns on the bonus feature games. For example, Ultimate X 6/5 Bonus multi-line is above 98%. If they have nickel-denom, that's only a $1.50 bet at 3-play. You do have to learn a specialized strategy because of the earned multipliers.
Double Super Times Pay adds about 0.5% to the base payback.
Occasionally you can find a dollar-denom game where the single-coin payback exceeds anything you could get on the quarter games.
