Are casino VP machines truly random?

Post by roke »

Was in my casino recently and discovered that 3 machines in a row of 5 were showing only 1500 for a Royal on a $5 bet, on jacks or better and DDB. Switching to deuces wild changed the pay table to 4000 on the same bet. I pointed this out to an attendant and soon 4 technicians arrived and shut them down. I always believed that deck was shuffling constantly( the famous RNG). However, when they brought up the first programming screen, I noticed that the first line said “four of a kind” and then showed some sort of code. I was quickly ushered away by one of the technicians, I believe so that I could not see anything. So my question is this. It appears to me that the machine still decides when you will get that fourth card to match your other three. Or when you will get that fourth card to a royal, and there’s truly nothing “random” about it. Am I right?

wow, everything I have been taught is it is an RNG going constantly. Nothing would surprise me though and good eye on catching the royal payout. Did it get reset to 4000 payout? Indian casino? It seems there is no regulation in them and they will just pay the fine associated.

Nothing about a casino machine is surprising. Especially with the random RNG! I see it everyday, with RNG on Keno!

I think the player card does influence the payout by RNG. Not sure how or where to go to get verification on randomness of hands on VP. Gaming commission should have that info.

I have not been back there yet, just happened last week. Yes it is an Indian casino. I too thought that the cards were constantly shuffling until you hit either the deal or draw button. I’m beginning to think there’s nothing random about it. Perhaps the only randomness is when it decides to give you a winning hand.

What really makes me suspicious is the fact that they did not want me to see anything on the screens.

Ted, stop whatever you're doing. This is more important.

Um, here we go again.....

dinghy, I really don't know what to respond to first, the RNG in my brain just threw an error code.

I'm beginning to wonder about gumball machines in casinos as the last 4 times I put my nickel in and twisted the handle, I got a grape gumball. Hmm.....maybe I should try the gumball machine without my players card inserted?

So enlighten us VP “Masters”. Random card shuffling of all cards in the deck? Or randomly generating a winning hand?

Research the difference between Class 2 and Class 3 video poker machines and you will have your answer without needing to indulge in conspiracy theories.
