Bah Harrah's...

Post by TripleTriple »

Full title is Bah Harrah's Holiday with Summer Retrospective War on High Variance "Post-Windfall Blues" (Limited Picture Edition)

I'll start with the retrospective of a four day mid-summer nights nightmare after basking in the glow of a Green spring. Bunch of numbers in absence of photo evidence. Data provided as typical-all play as usual on Five Star machine, Double Pay TDB 9/7 at denominations between quarter and two dollars, mostly dollar and half dollar.

Engagement Day 1

Dealt straight: 12
Dealt flush: 9
Dealt FH: 6
4OAK: 6
4RF: 2
Hand Pay: 0
TC: 2908
Fair losses incurred

Battle Day 2

Dealt straight: 8
Dealt flush: 9
Dealt FH: 3
4OAK: 7 (1 dealt)
4RF: 0
Hand Pay: (1) 2K, 3w2
TC: 2507
Collateral damage

Battle Day 3

Dealt straight: 9
Dealt flush: 9
Dealt FH: 3
4OAK: 7
4RF: 3
Hand Pay: 0
TC: 2529
More heavy casualties

Skirmish Day 4

Dealt straight: 4
Dealt flush: 2
Dealt FH: 0
4OAK: 1
4RF: 0
Hand Pay: 0
TC: 717
Moderate losses

Not-So-Grand 4 Day Total

Dealt straight: 33
Dealt flush: 27
Dealt FH: 18
4OAK: 18 (1 dealt)
4RF: 5
Hand Pay: 1
TC: 8661 (before bonus)
Estimated # Hands 13,000-15,000

I was able to manage a single hand-pay, albeit at dollars, over the four day campaign. The House giveth, the House taketh away. I sheltered in place while the echo dissipated.

Five months later, I employed the "my reward credits are going to expire" strategy and visited this past Sunday. Atrium tower, penultimate floor.

Dealt straight: 24
Dealt flush: 9
Dealt FH: 5
4OAK: 19 (8,7,8,K,3,9,K,K,Q,7,3w4,J,8d,9,3,4wA,9,3d,6). No 5s or 10s. No 2s or A.
4RF: 3
Hand Pay: 0
TC: 4792
Estimated 12,000 hands

Outmaneuvered. Heavy damage incurred. Supplies running low.

Surprise attack planned this week...

Doesn't keeping track of all that stuff slow your pace of play down a lot?

Nah. Take the last set of numbers. 60 occurrences in 12,000 hands,so one every 200 hands. Three to 5, maybe 10 per hour. I expanded my gambling log (which everyone should have) to include the dealt hand info So, a simple slash for each one. It takes a few seconds to log the 4RF since I note the cards and order. At the end of the session I note the Tier credits and that's it.

I don't keep track of the low bonus dealt hands of 3oak, 2 pair and 5s or better because they are so numerous. So much of the success of the game variant is dependant on the dealt hands, I like to know just how I lost so much or so little. It's quite interesting to me to see the variation over sessions.

Anyway, the one category I'm looking forward to recording is 5RF. So far that column is empty.
