SHOOTIN' COWGIRL

Post by ansoda »

About a month ago I had some time to kill on a business trip so I popped into the Hard Rock in Tampa Fl. I really don't like the indian owned casinos in Fl. , But any port... etc.
I managed to find a double bonus game at 9/6  .50 play. I read the machine face carefully for any of the usual gimmicks, (bingo side bets, horse race, etc.) none were evident. So, I invested $25 and played away.
I wasn't really hitting much, down to the last $5 when  I was delt 10-J-Q of clubs and 2 unmatched red cards. Held the three suited cards and drew a 9-K of spades. O.K., no royal, but a paying hand none the less. I waited for the win to be added, and .... nothing. What the hell? Did I do some thing wrong?
All of sudden, this little "cartoon like" cowgirl comes out from the right side of the hand display, take her six-shooter  out and blasts the 9-K spades( with sound effects) that turn into clubs! She struts off the display to the left, the music plays, and I am paid for a straight flush!!! What the hell....
I re-read the machine face, top, sides, bottom, nothing. No mention of what this was, is ,or could be. I cashed out and was going to inquire but thought better of it . Stopped by the bar, toasted the cowgirl and split.
Does anyone know of this, or am i just nuts!

What were you drinking before you started playing?

That sounds great. I'd have been very confused myself, but entertained! You would think something like that would be advertised somewhere as a  theme for the game or something. Very weird.

I haven't heard of anything like this. I agree with your nonchalant cashout, but what would you have done if you drew the royal, then a cowgirl came out and shot a card to diamonds?!

"Hey, I just um... got a royal on this... machine. But there was some... cowgirl or something that changed a card?"

"Sure there was, buddy. We've heard THAT one before!"

I want to hear what this game is too. No extra bet required or anything?

No , there was no extra bet. Just the $2.50 max bet. However, I do now remember that my cash out had small change, like .29 or something like that. Maybe it was some in-house gimmick that people with the casino's players club card might have been aware of, but I sure wasn't.
I doubt that the cowgirl would have blasted the cards to a lesser hand  because after all, it was an INDIAN casino!!
I wish I would have had the excuse of pre-play adult beverages, In my case that would explain everything!

That could very well explain it ansoda. it is my understanding that the terminal is just for show . It displays the results of a lottery draw and probably is programmed to make the screen match the lottery payout.
Or you really were drunker than a hoot owl.

This was a "bingo game". Most of the Hard Rock's games in Florida are really Class II bingo terminals. You actually got a bingo, and the payout was not reflected on the original hand. The cowgirl came out to "correct" the results to match what the hand should have paid.

Hey, thanks stephmo!
Thats a reasonable explaination for all the wierdness. I knew that the Fl. casinos are all into the bingo thing but they usually show a bingo card or something on the screen to indicate that fact. In this case, there was nothing showing and it caught me  unawares. Like Eduardo said , It was rather entertaining when it happened. Next time I play one of those friggin type 2's, I'll be ready for anything. This typing makes me thirsty, think I'll go and prep another "toast" to the cowgirl in the hope that next time I see her she will be more generous with her shootin' iron!
