four to the royal vs. flush

Post by wilcoxfun »

Greetings,

Yesterday evening I was playing and I had four hearts to the royal. I needed the Ace.  I had another heart a deuce so I had the flush.  Should I have kept the flush or went for the royal?

I was playing quarter machine progressive and it was over $1,200.

I look forward to hearing what you all say.  I will post later on sharing what I decided to do.

Thanks!

What game... Jacks or Better or DDB?

Nevermind... either way your best bet is to go for the royal, by FAR. Even without a progressive. The progressive makes it even more so.

So did you hit it?!

I could manufacture a paytable where the flush hold would be better, but I've never seen one in a casino. OTOH, with my luck at one card draws I should probably assume the RF only pays about 1/3 of what it says.
So far this year I have hit 1 out of 154 tries. I've averaged about 1-80 over the last 3 years. I still go for it every time though. One of these days the worm will turn.

The game was DDB.  My son was standing behind me and he said, "Take the flush!"  I did what I always do and took the royal.  I wish I had not had shadowman's luck!  I ended up with ZERO.  Son was smart--saying SEE I TOLD YOU SO!  I left the casino with five dollars up and he was $100 down but I am not going to mention that to him LOL!

So if you took the flush, you could have left $12.50 up instead of $5.00? Big whoop. You made the right call for the opportunity in this case.

About two weeks ago I sat a t a bar and there was a DDB $1 VP machine with a $6,700 Royal Flush.  I was delt a flush.  AH, KH, JH, 10H and 4H.  I gave up the 4H and was delt a QH.

This has happen a few times to me.  So I always do it.  Also, many times I'll just get another heart and if it's JOB you get a pair.

I'd say go for it!!!  Good luck

For grins, I went to Winpoker6 and altered the paytable for the flush. With the flush paying 100 , 4 to the Royal is the hold. At 125 for the flush, hold the flush. The game was JOB that I used. As SM said, doubt you would find the PT in a Casino.

You would also want to alter the paytable to be $1,200 (4800) for the royal in this case. Unlikely you will find a flush to compensate.
