Harrahs vs Harveys Lake Tahoe
Hi
Mrs. and I have the chance to visit Lake Tahoe in a few months. We get comped at Harrahs properties, and we have the choice between Harrahs and Harveys there.
So - do members have any favorite choice between these two? Any good stories? Any bad stories?
Please share and help us make our choice of where to stay in Tahoe!
Thanks!!

I have played at each but stayed at neither. They each look nice.

Hi marks,
I have stayed at both many times. If you have a choice between the two, free of charge, DEFINITELY go for the room at Harrah's - you will not be disappointed (get one with a skyline view to see the beautiful scenery that Lake Tahoe offers). Every room there is very nice, with easy access to the casino. Whereas Harvey's has a lot of disapointing so-so rooms, and some of them are an inconvenient trek to the casino. I also prefer the restaurants at Harrah's, for the most part.
If you and the Mrs like comedy, be sure to catch a show at the Improv over at Harvey's (it used to be easy to get comped tickets, but that may have changed with all of their recent belt tightening).
I'd advise you to book your room ASAP. Harrah's Tahoe sells out of their comped rooms very quickly. Well, unless you're 7 stars, of course (I'm just a lowly platinum!).
Enjoy your trip - please post a trip report when you get back! I'd love to read about your experience there!

My husband and I stayed at Harrahs in Lake Tahoe last June. We loved it. The view of the lake was amazing, the restaurants were equally amazing. We walked under the street to Harveys to gamble. The casino was nice. I would definitely stay at Harrahs again. Good luck!

Seeing the replies kind of surprises me with Harrah's getting more positive that Harvey's. Guess it depends on the room. I had a much better view from Harvey's than at Harrahs, and Harvey's is closer to the lake.
If you want to get a great view from the restaraunts, don't plan to go to the top level restaraunts on Mondays...at least as of my visit in late July. They were both closed due to lack of busuness.
I do prefer Harrah's casino over Harvey's but really did poorly everywhere there my trip except for the place called "**** blue" - I forget the first name but all my winnings there were on the tables.
Bills is a small place that Harrah's owns and is the only non-smoking casino in the state if that is an issue.
Actually my whole trip the VP everywhere was bad in Tahoe but the tables were pretty good.
If you rent a car and go to Carson City, there's some good places there and on the way for VP...and a chance to see the capital. It's about 1/2 hour drive.

The place you're thinking of is Montbleu. It used to be Caesar's Tahoe.

My wife and I stay a week in Tahoe every year in June for our anniversary. However, we stay at the Marriott, a couple hundred yard walk to Harrah's. We've never stayed at either, but from what I've heard over the years is Harvey's has the more upscale rooms of the two. The video poker at both is fairly average, no full pay schedules to be found. I have had some nice hits at Harvey's though, especially on 100-play deuces bonus believe it or not. Harrah's has a top floor resturant across the hall from the buffet called Frday's Station which is overpriced for dinner but is excellent for lunch or brunch. Overall I kind of feel Harrah's and Harvey's are essentially the same place being that you'll migrate back and forth between the two constantly with the connecting tunnel under the street.
As far as other casinos within walking distance, Bill's is a non-smoking casino, but is small and does not offer much variety and although owned by Harrah's, does not take the total rewards card. The Montbleu, formally Caesars Tahoe, is funky inside and has perfume piped through it's hvac system, very odd. By far the best video poker gaming within walking distance is at the Horizon. You will find many different pay schedules at Horizon with high returns.
Have fun and do enjoy the sights. It is a must to go up the Heavenly gondola located between the Marriott hotels just to the west of the casinos. Let us know how you do and HAVE FUN.

Went to Tahoe a couple mos. ago for a wedding, called around looking for
rooms. All the casinos were outragous. over 200. anight. even the place where the wedding was held was 150. Needless to say we stayed down
the street. For no more time then I spend in the Room, that is a waste of
money. I could enjoy it better on something else. It's been a few years
since I have been to tahoe, been going to Minden and Reno. I was
dissapointed with the casinos. There not near as well kept as they used
to be. I guess its part of the eco. Bills had just taken out all there tables
and had stoped giving out there slot cards. I made a loop and played in all
of the casinos at state line, Montblue was the only one that had timely
cocktail waitress, and I didn't have any winners anywhere. But now I get
free room offers every mo. from just about all of them. Go Figure!!
But the Lake is absolutely Gorgeous.
