trip to the taj
Saturday was around 9 degrees here. We hadnt driven our car for 14 days (cruise) and -you guessed it-it wouldnt start-arg! We called AAA and they came in around an hour-they had gotten lots of calls like ours. The guy jumped the car-did you know they dont attach the cables to another car anymore, they have a box??? Anyway-he started the car and tested the battery strength and said it was extrememly low-so we cautiously drove to our mechanic and he said yep-batteries almost dead-he changed it right there and then and we were off!
The .25 STP machines were all taken so we played together on dollar and only 1 line max bet and we cashed out up a few hundred. We played some .25 STP and i couldnt get arrested so I played some pennies-held my own. Finally we both decided tis is crazy and we played pennies till around 5PM-ith a break for lunch at the Chairmans club. Then we sat down with ur last hundred at a dollar 8/5 Bonus poker machine with only me playing.
I really like that 10 coins for 2 pairs! Anyway I played for quite a while and got up with 700 dollars! We fooled around with a few other machines and went to bed with 500-watched Quantum of Solace,IMHO Daniel Craigs a pretty darn good Bond! We also had room service
In the morning we both played the bonus poker-hubby got aces and I got deuces. He went to the STP and hit 4 7's with 5x multiplier. We played some more and then we quit with 1/2 our starting bankroll intact-whoopee!
Thats all folks!!!!!!!!

congrats boops!
by the way, AAA can actually put in a new battery in your car at your house. It's a tad more than it would be at say, pep boys, but they warranty it for a year. I'm suprised they didn't offer you that option. Maybe it's just a California thing b/c when I had my new battery put in about 2 years ago, they did it right here in my garage.

Good trip report.Boops.....I have a portable battery charger/tire inflater/jump starter that stays in my vehicle. I have roadside service thru my ins. but don't bother to call them if I can utilize this unit. It needs to stay charged, but can be carried to the nearest outlet (like in a parking garage where the roadside service truck wouldn't fit) and you can charge it there or fill up the compressor with air and then take it back to your vehicle. I came out to a flat tire once on a slanted ramp in a parking garage and boy, did it come in handy! I try to make sure it's always charged by plugging it in especially before a long trip, since there are no electrical outlets on the freeways.Of course, in bad weather or late at night, I'd call my roadside service.

Nothing like single digit temperature to do your battery testing. If it is marginal, it is toast.
Sounds like you helped Donald just a little bit. Next time it is your turn.

Nice trip, Boops! If you can't be a big winner on a trip, at least come back with something to get you started for the next trip.
My recent battery story:
Like Lizzy, I have a battery charger/jumper. Recently I needed to replace my truck's battery and I decided to save a little and do it myself. I put the new battery in and...nothing. I disconnected the cables, cleaned them, put them back on and...nothing. I hooked up my battery charger and...nothing. Put the old battery back in, jumped it, and the truck started right up. Defective battery, I thought, and brought the new battery back to the store.
When I got to the car parts place, I plunked the battery on the counter and made ready to do some ranting and raving. Before I could say a word, the guy glanced at the battery and took off the two plastic caps that protect the posts on new batteries from dings during shipping. Plastic is non-conductive.
That's what happens when software guys try to do hardware.

cd, ty for sharing a funny story and we do not think a lot less of you for your faux pas! We used to have a dark blue '68 Mustang convertible. My husband loved that car more than me, three sons and a dog! A stranger admired it in our drive way. Who knows why I mentioned we had just put in a new battery. The next morning when I tried to start it, NOTHING happened. One could open the hood without any hood release from the inside. It was not a case of a dead battery. It was a case of NO battery, because it had been stolen! 'Never saw the battery or that stranger again.

Marie, guess the stranger didn't like Mustangs. Easy enough to just take the whole car.
cd, I wonder how many times the guy at the parts place has retold that story.

Faygo, I managed the job without earning a Darwin award (no electroshocks) so I'll consider it a moral victory. I'll be sure not to visit that particular store again, though, unless I'm wearing a Groucho disguise.

Those stories have me grinning! I went to my service station cause the battery I had wasnt that old and they will give a new one prorated if the old one dies before its time! By the way I was ecstatic that I came home with some of my bankroll-that rarely happens without a GIANT win. We just played "smarter" Not going for the big hit but small, slow, and steady hits! Lets see if it works next time LOL

Can we get a charger to jump start Eduardo today? Kidding, kidding. Boops you always do a nice job with your trip reports. As for Daniel Craig I watched "The Road to Perdition" starring Tom Hanks & Paul Newman on the flight out to Las Vegas last week and I was surprised to find out that Daniel Craig played Paul Newman's son in that movie. I never caught it before watching it this time. Regards, Ted.
