Which Machine is Best

Post by kjohn »

  1. This has probably been discussed before.   Since the machines payouts are random is it best to just sit at one machine with your bank roll or should you move up and down the bank of machines until one hits something?    I'll usually put $50 in a  $.25 single line machine or $100 in a triple play, and see what it does.  If I can't get ahead then I'll move to another machine.  I've never known it that was smart or not....

  2. Also I've heard that the machines on the end of the isles pay out more often, perhaps because they tend to get played more.   True or False????

1. Do whatever feels best. The odds are the same for every hand assuming the same paytable, so it's entirely up to you. Sometimes I move when I'm losing, sometimes I stay put. Over time I've had success and failure with both approaches (more or less proving it doesn't matter).

2. That rumor was initially tied to slot machines (where the payback is not known) and may have been true at one time. Now I hear the casinos use other approaches. Luckily, for VP it doesn't matter since the paytable tells us everything we need to know about the return of the game. I think end machines do get played more because they have more room available for the player.

Shadow, easier to sit down and stand up if you need to make a potty run! End machines do get more play simply because they're less intimidating to the lesser experienced or those who are people challenged.

Yes we talked about end machines before (I think pokeherguy brought it up). It was a good discussion. If they hit more, and I think they do, it is simply because they are played more often. But your odds on them are just as good as any other location with the same pay table. An idle machine never hits.

the end machines are good for non-smokers b/c they can only have a smoker on one side of them.

by the way kjohn, i think you meant *aisle* not isle! (sorry, I had to!!)

I have found that the best machines are on either side of the one I'm playing.

Lizzy, Your post is too funny, yet there's a ring of truth in it! The end machines usually win for me and I have a chance of finding my lucky machines again. Dealt single and three play royals for me have been on end machines!

Well sometimes I feel like I'm on an Isle. (An island, especially a small
one.)      All alone surrounded by smoke and hostile money eating beasts.     I've
been doing too much Text Messaging...Can't spell or write anymore...I like the
less smoke and potty run idea...and Lizzy you are  just too funny....My latest
hit was at Harrah's in KC, MO.  A bank of $1 Progressive with the
jackpot at $7000.  Every seat was taken and finally one poor broke guy got up
from the middle seat.  I put my money in before I even sat down and figured it had
to be a terrible machine....Hit the 4A/Kicker  in 3 plays for $2000 and got up
and left.  Not one person said congratulations.  In fact I thought I might get
mugged....So I guess you just never know.... You folks are a lot of fun on this
site....

I take my pendulum and hang it over the machine. If I get a "yes" answer I play it. Often the machines in that row clear and I have my pick.

sort of like throwing a coughing fit and proclaiming loudly that you're
almost over the pneumonia.  That can clear out a lot of machines also...
