Harrah's New Orleans

Post by spxChrome »

Getting ready to head out to the Harrahs in New Orleans.  Its been 4+ years since I been.  I am wondering if they still have the World Series of Poker machines that put you into the bonus round with when you get a pair of jacks or better?  I love that game but can't find it anywhere.  Any other video poker?  Last time I went they only had a .50 and .25 progressive but I like to play $1's

Dont know about those machines, probably still have them, but like you we haven't been for a while.  We are going in September, so please make sure you do a "trip report".  Thanks in advance and good luck!

spxChrome,
We were at Harrah's NO first of March. The first time we had been since before Katrina. The pay returns weren't very good except for a small bank of 25¢ 9/6 DDB that we found. The only 99% return on $VP was on the multi-line games. Not the single line 99% returns that I'm used to in Lake Charles. You might check VPfree2 for the latest VP pay tables.

We did love the hotel and the staff was very courteous. Don't forget to take the trolley-three blocks away to go to the Garden District. We always go to Houston's to eat at least one day around lunch.

Hope you have a great time.

Thanks Larry,  harrahs was booked but they are putting is up at the "W" right across the street.  I'll have to check out Houston's.  There is a pizza place we like to eat at down at then end of the flea market, but its nice to hear of a new place.

spxChrome,
You might also try Deanie's Seafood in the French Quarter if you like seafood. It is a laid back diner type atmosphere but we really enjoy the seafood and it just a few blocks away. Deanie's is at 841 Iberville between Daughpin and Bourbon Streets. You can also get beignets across the way at the River Mall to save from going down the French Quarter in the mornings.

Good Luck in NO. HIt a RF.

Well I am back, the hotel was nice and we stayed an extra 2 days so we got to stay at Harrahs and it was even nicer than the W.  Ate at Ruth Chris and the food was great even the buffet.  Poker was terrible I mostly played 3 different progressive machines.  One was at 4.2k, 4.4k and the other was at 4.9k.  I played that one the most as the progressive was moving at 01. per spin so it was at about 93,000 hands without a Royal at full credits.  Plus these were the only 9/6 machines most of them were 9/5 and don't even ask about the bar.  It may have had the slowest payout I have ever seen at 6/5.
So based on my play it was close to 22,000 hands all DDB.

RF = 0
Special Aces = 0
Aces = 0
Special 2,3 or 4 = 0

2's = 2
3's = 2
4's = 1

SF = 2

So it was bad trip for Video Poker.  The entire time I was there it was pretty crowded especially on weekends day and night and every evening.  I only saw 1 hand pay for a $5 quad aces at 3 credits for $2,400.

Might be the worst trip yet as I usually hit at least Aces a couple of times during a session and this was pretty much 4 sessions of play.

eta: the progressive was at 93,000 hands without a royal not 49,000

spxChrome,
Sorry to hear the luck at Harrah's was so bad. The same with us when we were there in March. Only hand pays I saw were the two ladies who were seated to either side of me. The VP returns are really bad at Harrah's. But, the hotel was wonderful. We would go to NOLA more often if the pay returns were better at Harrah's but it is not worth the low returns.

If you are ever in the Lake Charles area check out L'Auberge du Lac (LDL) casino. Fine hotel and 99% returns on all $ Video Poker- a real class act between the hotel, lazy river, golf course, and casino. Besides it is only two hours from Houston versus 6 for NOLA.

PS. Don't play the 3-5 play at the bars. They are only $VP that is below 99% and they are around 96-97%.
