I know VP is random, but...
I have a buddy who I play vp with in Vegas. He is legally blind, he can see the cards but has to get his face a few inches from the screen to do this, so when I play next to him I look at his dealt cards and often tell him what cards to hold based on position, i.e. if his deal is A 3 A 6 9 I just say "one three" and he holds the first and third cards. Whenever he needs to keep the end cards, I say "bookends" rather than "one, five" and he knows what I mean.
After doing this for a couple long weekends he said "I hate keeping bookends, I never hit any quads". I didn't think much of this but started paying attention to this and it seemed true, so I started playing a lot of hundred play on here and it seems to hold true. I can draw to pairs and hit quads with some frequency, but it just seems very rare to keep a bookend pair and hit a quad.
Anyone else ever notice this? Or are my buddy and I wacko?

Maybe you and your buddy are wacko. I had not noticed this but will keep an eye out for it for awhile. However, I was very touched by your story! Everyone should be so lucky to have a buddy like you to help them see the light! I nominate you for sainthood! Books recommend we avoid distraction for better focus and here you are helping out another! Good for you!

I agree with Marie in that it's nice for you to help your friend out.
There's nothing special about "bookends". Sooner or later you'll have a run where the opposite is true and you'll be hitting more quads with bookends than without them. I don't doubt that it's happening, but it seems to happen more when you're looking for it.
The site uses a completely different RNG from what's used in the real machines, so I'm sure this is the case.

johnzimbo,
Your friend is very blessed to have you. I am experiencing my own mom lose her sight and it is a painful, frustrating, and a helpless feeling. She cherished her independence for 86 years. Now she can't clearly see, only feel, her new great grandson and my first grandchild. I can't imagine her sense of loss.
Love the "bookends" term.

I rarely get the pays with bookends, yet my husband 9 times out of ten, those cards just fill right in.

Is bookends a common term used in vp?

If so, I wanna copyright it!
Thanks for the nice words everyone! I really enjoy playing with my friend, he is a funny guy and we crack each other up. On the other hand, one time years ago he was playing on a machine that dropped coins (not a credit machine) so he had a tray full of quarters. I walked over and sat next to him, and next thing I know casino security is asking me for my ID! They musta saw me and did not know we were buds, so they assumed I was gonna steal his coins. I was ticked at first, then we just laffed it off!

I LIKE it that casino personnel were keeping an eye out for your friend! (no personal reflection on you) Once in Windsor, while playing VP, I realized I had made a bad play that cost me. A male employee appeared immediately from nowhere and asked if I were okay. No, I had not made a scene. I apparently lacked that poker face expression and he sensed something was terribly wrong. That would have been my sicko/loser expression, as if the end of the world were pending. Another time, I won two hand pay jackpots within a brief time span at Mirage. A male employee appeared from nowhere and congratulated me on two great hits. I had not noticed him before. Assume someone is watching your every move when in a casino and hope it is the good guys with your best interests at heart! I can only hope that would be the case if there ever were a major crisis/problem for me in a casino. If actually threatened, it's okay to scream "SECURITY!" or "FIRE!" to entice someone to back off.
