a few words about Grand Portage
Just a smallish place "down Highway 61" as Bob Dylan sings, almost to Canada on the N. Shore of Lake Superior. A decent selection of some of the newer machines, no decent VP returns to speak of, no liquor service in the gaming section and no table games. A pretty enough location, close to some interesting history, with a clean hotel and OK food. Bottom line, if you're out and about on the North Shore and get the urge to play, go ahead, but it's not really worth a special trip. They do run shuttles up and down the highway, including from Thunder Bay, Ont., Canada. One touch I hadn't seen anywhere else is the mini-TV screens on the machines so you can watch ESPN while you feed the golden buffalo.
