 Hi. first time post here.
     My wife and I have been going to vegas for the last 22 years,
     we will be making our 34th trip on jan 30.  butgetting to the
     subject of outstanding or wierd? how ever one want's to see
     it? was last april at fitzgeralds I was at the view bar upstairs,
     playing .25 job progressive,strait flush,royal,four of a kind,
     when a gentelman next to me hit the prog royal for $2,475
     not 2 min, later I hit the prog, strait flush for $225. since I
     only had put in $ten I was was happy for him,happy for me
     we talked for some time will he waited fo his hand pay, that he
     soon recieved, I finished my beer and said goodby,when I heard
     him say oh wow! his first hand after his hand pay was a dealt
     royal for $1000. never seen anything like it!

Welcome to forum and your first post, indydog! I cannot recall how many trips to Vegas. It's interesting we can remember wins but those losing sessions fade rapidly! Thanks for a good story to help inspire us!

True story. A couple married for 40 + years were playing megabucks & playing $3 dollars at a time ( of course). The husband said he had to go to the washroom but before leaving he told his wife to make sure she kept playing 3 credits at a time. After he left the woman decided to just play 2 at a time because they were losing. Yes she hit megabucks which would have paid 30 + million but instead they won $5,000.  When the husband returned & saw what she had done he started punching her. She went to the hospital & he went to jail. No word on whether or not they are still married.  Bernie

The sad part of that story is ... if she would have played 3 credits it would have changed her timing and she probably would not have made the hit. In fact, the $5000 win probably would not have occurred.
 
Too bad they didn't understand how slot machines work.

I once saw a lady hit quad aces back to back to back.  Yup 3 times in a row for $800 a piece.  Each one was a hand pay (old $1 coin machine the hopper would not hold that many coins).

If the VP machine is on the level, it has no memory of previous hands. A winning hand can happen at any time. Unlike a slot machine, where the number of winning combinations can be reduced or increased, a VP machine uses the standard 52 card deck, shuffled faster than the eye can see. Good pay tables may increase your playing time over the long run, but in the short term, ANYTHING can happen on VP.

It is really getting hard to find good video poker games. I'm from Chicago & the best I can find is 98% payback on Jacks or better based on perfect play. I play about 98% correct so I'm playing at a 4% house edge. At that rate I may as well play dollar slots for about the same payback & not have to think.

I'm not sure how you computed your own personal play. However, in most VP tutors there are two figures. One is the number of hands played correctly. The other is the impact on your return.
 
If the first one is 98% that is not all that bad and will often result in an impact on your return of .2% or less. This would mean you are giving up 2.2% instead of 4% playing VP.
 
In addition, I would doubt you will find many slot machines that don't have a 5% edge or greater. Especially in casinos that have poor VP.
