Computer/Machine Lock Down/No Pay outs

Post by Lucky Larry »

In what appears to be the next chapter in self destruction for Isle of Capri Lake Charles, this week end was a real loser.    Saturday night with a big crowd throughout the casino. The main frame finally crashed and for over two hours players could play but when they tried to TO (ticket out) the machine would lock up and require a hand pay. With hand pay requiring a security guard and supervisor it was hours before patrons could collect their $1,200 or their $1.45 from the penny machine.

Additionally, credits were not being accounted to players accounts. Many refused to leave their $2-3 payouts. One lady we saw had a G-statement hand pay coming, played another machine and it locked on $401 and then she played a progressive and hit AWAK on the third hand for $500. Now out of money she had to wait and watch three machines at the same time. We were told later that many patrons eventually left and the "vultures" swooped in to collect the abandoned tickets when the system came back on line.   No way to confirm whether it was their ticket or not according to security who we talked to the next day.

That would be a nightmare for the casino and those playing.  I have to be honest happy I was not there! It happened one time at casino I was playing at but they had everything back up and running within about twenty minutes. The casino staff went around and told everyone what was happening and that they would be providing a buffet for each person present.  Nice gesture I thought.

This reminds me of a time when one Ticket booth (whatever you call those things were you cash you tickets out) was programmed wrong and it was adding an extra 0 to the end of tickets.  So you put in a $20 ticket and got out $200.  This went on for over an hour when somebody finally noticed there was a long line at this one ticket booth and they shut it down.  It was said they lost over $60,000 that night.

Wish I could get that lucky once.

Wow, that must have been something. People must have been running to the nearest machine, putting in hundreds of dollars and then immediately cashing out.

I remember a few years back I was getting gas at a station near my house and for whatever reason, the computer at the pump rang it up for like .30 a gallon less than the advertised price.

Sometimes you gotta love computers and high-tech machinery.
