AC Joker Poker Strategy

Post by lblmhgo »

Can someone explain a little bit about the strategy in playing AC joker poker. What to hold when no pairs are dealt.
Thanks

This is not exact but fairly close to the order of holds when you have no pairs and no joker in AC Joker Wild:Straight Flush 32A, 4xA, 5xA-Kx9 or 3-card Royal headed by an Ace*Straight 432A, 5xxA-Kxx9Straight Flush 54-T9 or Royal JT*3-Card FlushStraight Flush 43,53-J9 or Royal QT,QJ*Straight 543-QJTStraight Flush 32,42,52-Q9 or Royal KT,KJ,KQ*Singleton 5-T**Singleton 4,J**Draw 5 new cards *With this game's pay schedule a royal flush is just another straight flush** When you have 2 or more candidates, hold the card that doesn't have another card in the hand of the same suit, then hold the one that is farthest from other cards.  This will not win too often, but it's the best you can do if you don't have any of the better holds listed above. But the most important strategy: keep your fingers crossed and hope for 5 of a kind.  It's generally better to hold a singleton than draw 5 new cards partly because a 5-tree pays so much in this game.  If you hold a singleton, a 5-tree is always possible, but if you draw 5 new cards, the first card might match one of your discards (happens more than 30% of the time).  In that case, your admittedly slim shot at quints totally vanishes.  Also if you pick a singleton from Five to Ten that is the only card of that suit in your hand, you maximize your chances at a flush or straight flush. You've got to be patient when playing this game and take what you can.  Seven times out of ten, you're going to get nothing, so there are bigger total droughts with this game than with many others...but all you need to put cash in your pocket is that one five of a kind that occurs a bit more than 4 times as often as a natural royal in most other games.

Playing 3line .25 STP acjw I had a 3x mult. I was new at the game but had been practising with vpfw -I was dealt crapola-so I hold the lone 7 and get 5 7's for $3000-Im sure that will never  happen again!

NICE hit Boops. I just wonder what possessed you to hold a lone 7 in the first place. Take whatever works and run with it!  I do remember holding a ten of spades one time and decided it was time to call it a night!Once Jean Scott admitted to tossing a deuce when she was playing deuces wild.

Marie, there are VP games where holding a single low card is better than a re-deal. The game I play, OEJs, is another one. I also hit 5 6s once holding a lone 6. Not worth as much as Boops hit, but a nice win nonetheless.

Case in point: just back from AC . Held suited J,9 got SF.  Many times a low card hold, especially a 9 turns into a SF. Haven't had a single card hold turn into a 5tree yet like Boops but I'm sure it is coming.

My best result with a one card hold is getting Royals twice holding just the 10 of diamonds. I had two SFs today holding two card SFs, one was the 2-5 of diamonds.

VPFW says you should hold a mid card and keep in mind flush penalties if you have nothing else to hold.  Thats why acjw is soooo hard to learn!

1. The player should understand the pay tables before starting playing the game.
2. The players should always hold straight flush, three of a kind, two pair, royal flush, four of a kind and full horse.
3. The players should discard the remaining two cards in three of a kind, they should discard the remaining one card in four of a kind hoping for full horse and with two pair they should discard the fifth card.
4. A player should consider breaking up flush or straight only if they have four cards to royal flush.
5. The players should consider keeping a low pair instead of a single high card.
6. If the player has four cards to a royal flush or four cards to a lower straight flush then he should break up a pair of jacks or better.

What does this have to do with the original question?
