Congrats on the royal. I agree on the point they are like a bolt of lightening out of the blue. When the casino I go to opened for the first year I had very few trips where I did'nt see a royal hit by someone. I hit four my first year and that was on far less trips to the casino that I make now. I knew a guy and his wife that went all the time when they first opened and his wife and him hit 34 royals that year. I have only hit 1 in the last 3 years and only seen 3.

I don't know if its a record or not but I found it hard to believe they actually hit that many but I did see him hit 2 in one night.  The last time I saw the husband which was about two years ago he said they very rarely came anymore. They did live in the same town the casinos were located in so they were probably there everyday. I do know that everytime I went to the casino back then they were there.

The RNG doesn't have to change. This sounds like a lack of understanding of random. Random does not mean consistent results. Streaks are very, very common and easily can last for 100,000 hands and up. If somone experiences good luck (a winning streak) followed by bad luck (a losing streak) they often start assuming that something has changed. And, the higher the variance (as in DDB,JWD,etc.) the bigger and costlier are the losing streaks.
 
If you play almost everyday as I do you will see many streaks over the years. I still don't like the bad ones (as I experienced earlier this year) but I know they are part of the game.
 
Addiction is one of the side effects of streaks. It is easy for an individual who experiences a prolonged winning streak to get addicted. For some reason they believe they "have it figured out". When the worm turns they are so hooked they can't quit, but still believe their original luck will return. Most addicted gamblers are not playing a game that will generate wins over the long haul so these folks will almost always lose everything before they finally give up.
 
Statistically about a 40% of the gamblers will experience better than average luck when they start. Not all of them will experience a prolonged winning streak but many will.
