The Streak is Over

Post by Lucky Larry »

The incredible "once-in-a-lifetime" streak Sweet C and I had is over.

Beginning on our New Year's Eve trip 12/31/10 and ending 2/14/11 I had made 7 trips and 7 G statements-six on the same machine playing mainly 25¢ & 50¢ 3/5 play.

Included in the streak I had two dealt Royal Flush (1/1/11 and 1/28/11) and on "one crazy night" each of us hitting the Progressive RF and Progressive AWAK (both less than a dozen hands later) less than 45 minutes apart playing the same bank of progressives (1/15/11).

Sweet C had hit the Progressive AWAK 10 times over 7 trips but missed out last trip although she began a new streak of AWAK this Valentine's Day trip.   I couldn't catch the G this trip although I caught 4 deuces 3 times (2 within an hour stretch) playing 3/5 play all on the same machine. "My favorite machine" also dealt a RF on Monday to a lady about an hour after I moved to 5¢ multi-hands. It was a beautiful 3 hands of diamonds. Hope she will post it since I gave her VP site.

To say we've been amazed is an understatement. Thanks for all the kind words of encouragement and wishes for good luck. Our hope is that each of you has the same incredible experience at least once in your lifetime.

LL & Sweet C

Don't give up on that 3rd dealt RF just yet. I once has 3 of them over a two month period. Of course, then I went a couple of years before my next. Do good things come in threes?

Shows how random video poker is. Since the advent of the modern video poker machine in the late 80's I've played millions of hands and have never been dealt a royal flush.

Keep your head up high Larry, time to start a new streak!

Don't feel bad I been playing 16 years and have probally played billions of hands and have only had 3 dealt Royals and 2 of those game in the same year.

Oddly enough I have been dealt AWAK more times than I can count and the odds of that are about the same 1 in 600,000.  Go figure.

There are only 4 ways to make a royal, but aren't there 12 ways to make AWAK?

There are 12 ways to get AWAK dealt vs. 4 for a RF. That makes it 3 times more likely. About one in every 220K hands.

Billions?  A billion is a lot more than most of us can conceive. If you played 1000 hands per hour, 24 hours per day, 365.25 days per year (the 0.25 is to account for leap years), for 114 years, you still wouldn't quite get to that 1st billion hands.  Now, I know the oldest person in the world is generally around 114 years old, but I don't think video poker has been around quite that long.Ok, I suppose you could have been playing 100-play all that time.  At 600 hands per hour of 100-play, if you played 40 hours a week, 52 1/7 weeks per year, at 800 hands per hour (you have to slow down a bit when playing 100-play), you could get to a billion final hands in 6 years, but that would still be nowhere near a billion dealt hands. With a billion dealt hands, it would be incredibly difficult to have fewer than 1000 dealt royals.  A billion is a lot.

Well I was exaggerating but lord it seems like that many.   And the AWAK odds make sense, I had just read that somewhere and didn't think it through.

I play around 1 million hands per year so after 16 years you would think more than 3 Dealt Royals.  And a dealt Royal is not something you forget.

1st .25 Deuces Wild Sam Town Casino - Diamonds $1,000
2nd $1.00 DDB Golden Moon Casino - Spades $4,400+
3rd $1.00 BPD Riverwalk Casino - Spades $6,300+
