Something is Rotten in AC

Post by DaBurglar »

...and it isnt the fish! Here's my latest report from "Atlantis"...er, AC.   I just returned from a 5 day visit and had a truly frustrating time; check this out... I actually stayed my first 2 nights at the Tropicana, and right after checking in I went straight to the main VP section on the floor and saw a bank of plain ol' JoB machines (10 of them) conected to a progressive jackpot on a Royal that had reached well over $1500!  Normally I wouldnt touch these machines because they are 8/5 and I try only to play 9/6, but with the royal jacpot over 1500, I said what the hell and sat down.  after about an hour, I was dealt a hand A K J 10 of spades and a 7 of hearts.  I tossed the seven and hit "draw" and BOOM, the Black Lady showed up and I hit the Royal!!!!  $1523.18 !!!! Yippee!  er, well YIPPEE aside from the fact it took the 79 year old lady from the cashier cage another HOUR to bring my winnings and tax form from the cage (yeeesh).  I had to sit there in the now abandoned bank of VP machines with the incessant "dinging" of the machine going, for nearly an hour, but hey, I WON!!!  I just turned my hearing aids off and waited for Granny to return with my moolah and shut the noise off (fyi I still had $168 of MY OWN money in the machine which is why I had to stay there and wait.) I then spen the next two days not doing much of anything VP-wise, content with my jackpot to just relax in the hot tub and eat pizza.  On day 4 I went back to playing, this time over at the Trump Plaza where they DO have 9/6 job, but here is where it turns to S H eeeeite.  I did two 2 hour sessions on Day 4 and lost $410....I think MAYBE I hit one four of a kind but that was IT!  NADA!  ZIP!   I went to bed a little frustrated but still way up for the trip....Day 5 started with me eating breakfast and checking out of my room before my final playing session, which went like this:  I spent one hour at the same 9/6 Job machine I lost 400 the previous day, and after that 1 hour, playing at my slow deliberate pace, I was now down another $200!!!!!    I was dumbfounded....this fugging machine I was at, a 9/6 Job, had consumed $200 on a little less than 400 hands, that is not only ABYSSMAL but almost larceny!!!! Imean wtf????   Even though I had lost the day before, I had just chalked that up to bad luck.....but then to sit down again and receive almost NOTHING in terms of payable hands.....I believe I had several streaks of over 25-30 NON-paying hands during that last hour, I mean it was almost like that machine was programmed NOT to pay.  in over 5 hours of play between both days I only had ONE four of a kind.... OK, so even though I was up for the whole trip thanks to that Progressive, has ANYONE ever encountered one particularly EVIL, awful machine, one that, no matter HOW long you played it, it just NEVER ever payed out anything??? You all have to admit, losing $600 on just over 5 hours of play on a 9/6 JOB machine is rather EXTREME..... Now I know why the people who swear up and down that VP is rigged or fixed feel the way they do...if I had a few more experiences like this one, I might start to think and feel irrational as well.  If you allow yourself, you start thinking "Hmmm, well Trump Plaza HAS been in and out of Bankruptcy over the past few years, they ARE struggling, etc....maybe they DO have a number of 'Blackholes' amongst their machines designed to just suck up peoples money...." I just wish I had more playing time, and therefore, more high-roller clout at Trump to get them to open that machine up so I could look inside for the little green devil I know inhabits it!!!! lol

Congrats on the Progressive. My last two RF were on Bonus and they paid the same 4K as DDB RF. Sometimes the "old ways JOB" still make cents.

Congrats on the nice win at Trop. Where is that progressive bank? I've never seen it. I never play at Trump properties -- my feeling is their games are rigged. Don't trust 'em. Had a similar experience a couple years ago with a friend of mine at the Plaza. Will not go back again.

I have gone as much as 6 1/2 hours at Mohegan Sun on more than one occasion before hitting one four of a kind on a 9/6 JOB machine. In the other extreme, on the same bank of machines another time one machine hit 4 Aces 5 times in one hour. Unfortunately, the Aces paid no extra, but it was still a nice win on that session. It seems that this is just the nature of the beast. Even though a Royal comes roughly every 40k hands, I have gone as long as 500k hands without a royal over a period on several months. I have only been dealt a Royal twice in 13 years way way way below the average of one in roughly every 700k hands. Currently, I have gone over 60k hands on Deuces Wild without being dealt 4 deuces. Streaks are great when they are in your favor, but  terrible most of the time.

Yup, I get those streaks as well.  Just Monday I was playing 10/6 DDB.  Got stuck on this one machine and according to my players card and my wallet I went through about 3600+ hands without a quad.   Finally gave up on it and turned it over to a friend of mine to try.  He went 600 hands and finally a quad came.

I know VP is streaky but it seems the rare odds of not hitting something for a long time compared with identical statistics to something positive happening are in favor of the negative.  As the negative rare occasions happen alot more frequently imo.

The negative streaks do happen more often. That is the way VP is designed. The thing that balances out this situation is the high pays for certain hands means you don't need long winnning streaks to counter the effect of bad losing streaks.

On my last visit to a casino I had about 1 hour of good luck and 5 hours of bad luck. I came out ahead due to the high paybacks in that one hour.

Agree wholeheartedly with shadowman.  Let's see what we should expect in the way of quads playing 10/6 DDB with computer-perfect play and a perfect RNG.Let's assume you are on a bad streak and you want to guess what is going to happen in the future.  The probability of quads on any hand is p = 0.0023935Consider 2 outcomes out of all the possibilities that could happen.a.  You get quads on your next hand.  That probability is 0.0023935, odds of about 418 to 1.b.  You miss quads on the next 2519 consecutive hands.  The probability is (1-p)^2519, odds of about 417 to 1.Of course, neither of these are as likely as some other outcome like a set of quads somewhere in hands 2 thru 2518.  Or even no quads in more than 2519 hands. But sometimes you do hit quads on that next hand.Randomness says that the event of going quadless for 2500 more hands after any streak of no quads is virtually just as likely as the event of ending that streak on the next hand.Neither event is likely but neither event is so unlikely as to be unthinkable.
