5 big hits in 2 weeks
Ok, I am LIVE poker player primarily. In fact VP is quite new to me. In the past, I've played VP while sitting at the bar having a beer, or just randomly sat down and tried my luck on a $20 bill or two. A few weeks ago I got bumped out of a poker tournament at Viejas Casino in Alpine. I went down and got beat up by blackjack and then took a walk around the casino. I ended up sitting at a row of VP machines and playing two games... "Shamrock 7's" and "Deuces Wild". I was playing $1 denominations. I actually had quite a bit of fun with the Shamrock 7 game and was up $100 before giving it all back and then some. I deposited a second $100 and tried "Deuces Wild". I played that $100 for about 20 minutes, talking to the lady next to me... having some good social fun gaming. That's when the streak started... The lady I had been talking to had juuust left and I was on my own. Bam... 4 Deuces for 1k. It was oh so nice b/c the 1k covered my live poker loss and some blackjack loss.. I was UP.. and I walked. Ahhhh. My first ever VP hit !The very next week I was at Barona Casino in Lakeside, CA (both Viejas and Barona are just outside of San Diego). I was at Barona playing LIVE poker trying to cash in on some of the MNF promos. Alas... once again I lost money at live poker and decided to take a walk to shake off the beats I had taken. Once again, Blackjack was a first stop and it was brutal. I was down about $900 on the night when I decided to give VP another try. Why not? So within the first 45 minutes of play on a variety of VP games... I hit 1k on 4 Deuces again playing "Deuces Wild". Very very nice. Back to the blackjack table with my new found wealth on the night -- - and it's one of those sessions where I cannot win a hand. I almost lose ALL of that 1k win before getting up - I am beyond frustrated. How could I possibly have the gall to win 1k and then give it back so quickly? Arghhh !!! I start to head to the exit and see another row of VP machines. I stop to look at the paytables to see if they are much different. Lo and behold, this new row of machines has a game called "Loose Deuces" in which 4 deuces pays 2.5k ($1 denom). I was non too happy to see that b/c my 4 deuces just an hour previous (on the other machine) only paid 1k. So I had to sit down.. It took me about an hour... but BAM... I got it. 4 deuces paying off 2.5k. It is now very late, about 2:30 am. I've learned my lesson... no dumping the winnings at blackjack. I am just haaaapppppy. I ask the cashier cage if their are any eateries atill open so I can have a quick bite and leave. The cashier points me in the direction of the casino I've never been in. So I head on over. The eatery is sit down only... no take out, so I tell them thanks but no thanks and decide it's time to go !Ok, walking out now.. right? Right ! As I am now in that new part part of the casino (to me) ... I see yet another set of VP machines different than the ones I had played earlier. I scroll thru some of the paytables and see a game called "Shockwave" in which ANY four of a kind pays 4k. Ok... there is a bonus mode you have to get into if I understand correctly, but once again, I felt a little jilted for not having scouted the whole casino floor first to find the best pay tables. And yes, at 3 am... I sat down to give Shockwave a try. The first machine wouldn't take my bill. I scooted one over. I kid you not... it took me all of 5 minutes to hit again. I never got to figure out the Shockwave 4 of a Kinds bonus feature b/c I nailed a Royal Flush for 4k. I only had to draw one card to get it and ... as the screen paused before flipping the card... it was a nano second extra long pause... I KNEW my card was coming. BAMMM It took about 30 minutes to get paid, i go my photo taken on my request, etc... but wowowowow... what a night.- $500 at live poker- $800 at Blackjack+ 7.5k at Video Poker !!!Fast fwd to yesterday in which I was back at Viejas playing live poker in a small tourney. Got knocked out... went to play Shamrock 7's... played that, Jacks or Better, and Aces and Eights. Got upa few hundred, but gave it right back. Couldn't seem to hit anything big. Ended up down about $500 to VP and went to the blackjack tables to see if I could recoup some of that VP loss. As luck would have it... Blackjack was nice to me and I won back my VP losses and had some house money. At the cashier cage while I am cashing my Blackjack winnings... i briefly discuss my VP luck with the two ladies in the cage. I tell them that I am on a mission to go hit a VP jackpot before I leave today. They laugh, i laugh... and I proceed to go find a set of VP machines I hadn't played before ... I sit down... and withing minutes... played Jacks or Better... BAMMMMMMMM - Royal Flush. Again, had to draw just one card to nail it. 4k ! I went and had to share my luck with the cashiers. They were loving it just as much as me since I pretty much told them I was going to go win one. This has just been an insane 2 weeks for me. I don't typically gamble this much, but I have some time off from work to heal from an injury. I cannot believe the luck I have had with VP. I only thought to get photos of the two Royals - I actually asked the casino to take my photo, but I also snapped photos on my cell phone too.. I will upload those two Royals if that is the code of conduct here to go along with stories. I just gotta go buy the little cord that does that... money is not an object this month !!

A couple of quick follow up notes. First of all... i started reading other threads after posting mine. Wow. what a great forum. This is the right place for this whole new experience I am having with VP. I thought maybe I might seem like a high roller ... but after seeing some of the other poster stories... this stuff is happening all over the country and at much bigger payouts than my measly 4k royals. Congrats to all winners out there.Second point I need to bring up... which is really kind of odd. There is a post by "roveer" in which he notes that he was hitting big after midnight. several others chimed in suggesting the same. in quick retrospect... Both of my Royals came after midnight. Very odd... but maybe not so much. In my case there were no players even remotely close to me. Perhaps there is something to this. If it's an edge for the player... we would be fools not to take advantage.

Congratulations! Kick yourself for calling your $4k winning measly. That's not a small win. Sure, looking at Billy Joe's $64,000 win makes it look like a drop in the bucket, but any win is fantastic. Think back at the feeling you felt when you hit the royals - even winning a $200 nickel royal feels fantastic. Congratulations again. Here's hoping we all get a royal today.

Welcome to the forum and congrats. When your on a streak enjoy it.
Some nights you can really have great timing. This past weekend we got to watch an IOC Lake Charles regular, Janice, hit four hand pays with 3/4 dealt on DDB - STP.
Dealt 2'sw/kicker = $2,500
Dealt Aces and hit 2/5 with kicker = $2,500
Dealt AWAK for $5K
and then she hit $RF = $4K all within 3 hours.

Thanks... some quick research on the net brought me to this site. I had no idea VP was as much of a "thing" as it is. I've educated myself on some basics (9/6 vs 8/5 for example). I've scratched the surface and there is more to learn. I'm a little upset with myself for my last trip which... although ended with a RF... still had me sit down at an 8/5 machine rather than scout the whole floor to find 9/6. I'll be playing tomorrow.. and will bring a little more discipline.

I wouldn't run to far with that theory, milmont. If after midnight really gave an advantage to players, then the casinos would be busting at the seams during those hours. If I have learned one thing about casinos, and Vegas in particular, it is that, if an edge is exposed, then players WILL exploit it.
I remember one instance years ago, at NYNY in Vegas, where there was a single multi-denom, multi-line VP machine with DDB set at 10/8. One guy played it THREE DAYS STRAIGHT, leaving the machine only when his wife would sit and save it for him. Max denom was only $.25, but he still won thousands before the slot supervisor realized what was happening, and took the machine down "for maintenance". It was gone in less than an hour.

milmont,
The next time you head out check out the following link which identifies the best VP at most US/Canadian casinos. You can locate casinos by region and we cut/paste a print out for the casinos we are going to visit. You can also locate specific games to play.
Best of luck.

Congrats on the nice hits. Just don't expect that everytime Sometimes you can spend $4K without even getting 1 quad much less a RF.
Your story did remind me last week I was playing DDB 100 play and got dealt AWAK. What was wierd is before the cards came out the machine froze up. It froze long enough for me the look around like the power had went out. And then Bam! Go Figure I guess it takes some extra CPU to log those hand pays or something.

thanks for the feedback all. The streak continues !I went back to Viejas in Alpine, CA tonight. I scouted machines and was drawn to : Ultimate 4 of a Kind Bonus Poker. Viejas has two machines with .25 and .50 denom options. I typically only play $1 games, but this game hooked me pretty quick. If you get a quad... there is a potential bonus. In
the bonus screen... 53 cards are presented face down – a standard deck plus one
joker. The player is prompted to select 1, 2, or 3 cards, depending on
the rank of the initiating 4-of-a-kind. A dealt 4-of-a-kind awards one
additional pick. The player wins the total number of credits
accumulated through all picks unless the joker is revealed, in which
case the total bonus win jumps to 3,996 credits, ending the bonus. So I got a qualifying quad within 5 minutes and got to see the bonus screen. I had two picks and got an extra 500 credits on top of my quad payoff. The bonus play is a lot of fun. I got back into it shortly thereafter and got 1 pick for 200 credits. As for the streak I am on... a few hours into gameplay I got back into the bonus screen. and my one bonus card pick turned out to be the joker paying off 2k. If you've never seen the bonus screen ... it's very cool. I got into the bonus about 6 times total on the night and I was just absolutely stunned when I picked the Joker card among thr 53 face down cards. I ended up dumping about $500 back into various other games... but that 2k hit made it a great night. And I love the game. I was playing Double Bonus Deuces Wild version.
