Playing DDB for free revisited

Post by FloridaPhil »

This thread is strictly for recreational players.  We don't have anything close to a 100% VP games around here and probably never will.  I play for fun, and for me that means playing as long as possible while still having a chance at a good sized jackpot.  Over the past five years, I've continued to refine my low budget, big jackpot strategy.   I've learned a few things that I think other "just for fun" players might be interested in.

My strategy works like this.  I only put $20 in the machine at a time.  I start with .25 deuces wild and continue to play until the meter hits $40. This happens often on some days and others you may go through $100 before it happens.  When the meter reads $40, I immediately switch to DDB $1s and play down to zero.  If I hit a quad playing DDB, I cash out when the meter returns to the amount of the DDB jackpot.  This usually allows me to play for at least a couple of hours and I have walked out of the casino up $1,500.  I have yet to hit a DDB 4A w kicker or a Royal doing this, but it will come.

There are a few drawbacks.  First, you don't win all the time (obvious).  Also, you often get great DDB hands while playing Deuces (part of the game).  One thing I am totally convinced of... never-ever play 8/5 DDB straight up and expect to win long term.  DDB is a total loser if you play this way.  No matter how much money you win, you'll never get ahead of your losses long term.  The only way to play DDB is on a pot-shot, once in a while basis and then only play for dollars (at least you get something for your effort).

This stragetgy is very exciting because you are combining Deuces with $1 DDB play.  Try it, you might like it.
