Use of notes and advice??
Please comment on the discrete (and infrequent) use of paper notes such as a Pay Table VP strategy guide at a state run casino. Might it void a jackpot? How about getting or giving advice to another player? I just realized from my notes that in Super Triple Play Double Double Bonus Poker [gotta love those flowing words] that a pair of 5's is preferable to four to a low straight.
Does anyone refer to notes in a casino? It might be considered unsporting, but is it illegal? I use the practice training modes, but once in awhile I am unsure of optimal play. It matters a lot on 10 line play. Thanks much.

My information is very old, but when I ran the team (1990-2000) only "team players" had strategy cards and it was never a good idea to whip them out in a casino with even mild heat. Many people were 86ed for use of strategy cards. It's perfectly legal as long as its not on an electronic device.I believe use of strategies has become so ubiquitous that there is now LESS heat than there was in my day. I would still recommend against it, just as I would recommend against wearing a hat with the phrase, "I know what I am doing" printed in large friendly letters on the brim.~FK

WisT,
We have used a strategy sheet to check preferred play and occasionally WinPoker on my cell especially since we play lots of multi-hand. We've never had a problem but I wouldn't necessarily use one all the time. That said I've even had one pay clerk ask me for a copy so she could play VP better. We bought our first VP strategy cards at a Vegas casino gift shop several years ago when we began playing VP.
Just like taking pictures of hits/payouts has become more acceptable at casinos (and encouraged at some we play at) it is my sense that like Frank said there is less heat from security.

Are there any strategy sheets for Super Triple Play DDB?

You can go to www.vpgenius.com and input the payoffs in the DDB game and ask for a strategy guide. That will get you a reasonable no-penalty strategy. You can also test some specific hands there if you are concerned about specific plays. If you want some more detail, there is software out there to do this for many games: VideoPokerStrategyMaster by Tomski, Frugal Video Poker, which I think is free, Video Poker for Winners from this site, Optimum Video Poker by Dan Paymar, and Wolf Video Poker if you want to generate your own strategies. If you are worried about penalty plays for just this game, I think there are only about 6 or 7 of them and they are likely of little consequence in extra EV, though I haven't calculated their value. If you are super interested in them, drop me a private message and I will see if I can dig out what I put together a few years ago.
