February videopoker.com contest
The February contest features 100 hands at a time of 25 Play Super Times Pay. Merely being dealt a royal flush will only give you 100,000 points --- as I write this, 10th place is 116,000+ points. Scoring 16,000 or more points in 99 hands (in addition to being dealt a royal) is fairly rare --- perhaps 1 in 10 hands. First place currently (Saturday 2 p.m. PST) is 312,000 --- which is a dealt royal PLUS a 3x multiplier. The "best" game to play for these contests is usually Triple Double Bonus because aces with a kicker also gives you 4000 coins. That game is not part of the mix this month. Should you wish to spend your time playing in this contest and hoping for a dealt 4000-coin hand with a multiplier, AC Joker Poker gives you a better chance to win. Yes it's a 97% game, but in this contest all you are concerned with is being dealt 4,000-hand jackpots. AC Joker Poker gives you 13 such hands (all 5-of-a-kinds) where other games only give you 4 royals (one in each suit). DDB also give you aces with a kicker for 2000 --- and if you're dealt one of these with a BIG multiplier it pays the same as a dealt royals with a HALF-AS-BIG multiplier. Even adding this to the mix, AC Joker Poker is the best play for this contest. Choosing a 97% game over a 99% game doesn't come easily for a knowledgeable player. Still, in this case, it's the right play. The prizes are small (first prize is $500) but it's positive EV if you have no life. Bob

Well, now that Bob has spilled the beans there's a simpler way of viewing it. In multi-line contests the best chance of winning is to play the game with the most highest paying jackpots. That is why Triple Double Bonus is usually the best game. It's also why the AC Joker is a good game.
Of course, there's usually a secondary game which requires a strategy dependent on what the game is and is usually different than the primary game.

Of the current top ten, 6 were playing DDB and 4 were playing deuces. Some would probably like to say that negates what Mr Dancer has stated here. They would probably be wrong. But deuces might not be a terrible play given the odds of dealt deuces and needing to deliver while a multiplier is present. That shouldn't overcome the opportunity for dealt aces in DDB though, with all the kicker draws you'd have a shot at.The truth is, you could play Jacks or Better and win just fine. But Bob's advice here will likely give you the best opportunity.

I do not see why a website that is supposedly promoting intelligent play of video poker games bases many contests on laying down a royal or 4ak on the deal. Just hit the button --- no knowledge of the game is required. Why not develop a contest where winning measures knowledge and skill?
