Analyzing-Returning to the Past/
Last year was an incredible run of major hits but this year has seen limited big hits. So I decided to review my spreadsheet of hits and royals from the past years to try to analyze the difference.
Questions:
What is the difference between last year and the past years/current year? Has something changes or is this just a regular run of return to norm? Is it the luck of timing? Change in games being played? Change in machine pay tables? Is there a bank roll difference? Am I playing differently?
Data:
90% of my hits were on one 3/5 play machine. Four dealt multi-hand (MH) royals in one year and drawing Aces on the first hand of multi-hand Super Aces were skill!!! OK lots of timing luck. Only two G's were on multi-hand (MH) 5¢ which I've been playing a lot since I haven't hit on the 25¢ 3/5 machine.
Conclusions:
Pay tables are the same and I'm playing the same basic games. Being dealt a Royal on 3/5 MH 25¢ on New Year's Day gave me money to continue to play higher denominations. Catching another dealt RF on MH 27 days later boosted my bank roll considerably and funded a big portion of our play. (Sweet C and I are community players - whoever wins shares their bank roll with the other.) Playing the one machine (9/6 JOB/NSUD/9/6 DDB) meant my big hits and royals were significantly bigger than 5¢ MH. My overall bank roll has been a little smaller compared to last year but, I realized I often played for hours on the same machine and recently I've only played through a hundred or so, quit and moved back to 5¢ MH. The incredible luck of timing is just that LUCK!
Decision:
I decided to play through most of my bank roll on my favorite 3/5 machine. Down a $100 I forced myself to continue but switched to JOB from NSUD and caught a RF within 15 minutes holding 4-RF. Within two hours I caught 4 Aces twice and 4s w/K and 2's w/K on DDB. Up for the night and the trip. Couldn't get my machine today and played through my morning allocation on 5¢ MH and never got a decent hit.
While I understand the return to norm and streaks, analyzing my play has helped me better understand the factors that are impacting my results.
Best of luck to everyone this year.

Unfortunately for us all, there is no system of changing games/machines/denominations that influences our ability to hit big winners. Whatever works one day/year could very easily fail the next.
It's called randomness.
It's called randomness.

Shadowman,
I understand randomness and the luck of timing. The RF could have been on9/6 or 6/5 JOB. But, I also believe in reviewing one's play occasionally to insure that the factors that I control don't negatively impact my chances. As a result I try to play high return, low volatility games and don't drink or play when I'm really tired. But, I sure will take luck anytime it wants to come my way.
