"Don't stand so close" (I can't believe I said it
In spite of needing to convert more USD to CAD, I was in a great mood. My weight watcher friend who talked me into this trip, vetoed the great buffet because she could not trust her self control. This meant I did not have to share my mailed offer of a nummy lobster tail. This meant I would not have to listen to her counting my food points as she did last trip! YES! I was using the Canadian money exchange machine at Windsor Caesar's that doubles as a redemption machine. An older gal is standing 1/2" behind me and her two friends are on either side of me, scrutinizing my every move on that machine. I needed to focus on the machine. At first I ignored them, TWICE! Finally, I blurted out "Don't stand so close". They began discussing this. What does she mean? As I was leaving, I said VERY sweetly, "It's just like an ATM machine. You give people space to use it."I was not concerned they would grab my $, but needed to FOCUS to use this exchange machine. First, I fed it a $20, and waited for VALIDATION to show up. NEXT, it asks if I accept the 99% exchange rate. YES. Next I inserted four more 20s, waiting and watching for each to appear. Next, two singles were necessary to cover that exchange rate. Finally, DISPENSE shows up to be punched or nothing will happen. IF you do not cover that exchange rate, a bunch of heavy Canadian coins show up plus several denoms of bills and you do not get a bengie. Once, I did not get the extra exchange rate $$ in fast enough and the machine dispensed under $100 and a bunch of heavy Canadian coins. Hence, "Don't stand so close"

Right On! Marie
Not to hijack your post but, "Don't stand so close".... part 2. At our regular haunt there is an older woman who plays for hours @ 1 hand x 1 coin 5¢ multi-hand. If a machine is not available she will often spend 20-30 minutes standing within a foot or two right behind or to your immediate side watching you play. It drive both of us crazy.

Too funny, LL, I can relate! In the elevator leaving the buffet, were two security guards and another employee. One asked "How was that lobster?" "Fantastic!", I replied. "Does melted butter wash out?"

I'm at the casino to win money, not to be nice. If someone intrudes on my space, I will tell them to please move on. Especially if the "looker-with-nothing-productive-to-do" is smoking and especially if he/she is blowing their smoke in my direction. To me, stopping behind a player and not only staring at them, but also plastering them with second-hand smoke is about as rude as it gets.

I am not a fan of people watching my play either, but when they start asking you how to play whatever game you are doing, it drives me nuts. If someone is playing, I will help anyone learn, or if they are stumped while playing and ask for help, absolutely no problem. t amazes me how many people do not know how to play simple 5 card draw. My daughter in kindergarten was asked what she did over the weekend. She said she was playing cards with her grandfather. Upon further questioning, she informed the teacher that she had won a really big pot with a pair of bullets. Oops.

Thanks for your input, doris, mule, rascal and cook! It appears we are on the same page!'Love that hysterical daughter story, cook!IF one is not planning to return to Windsor Caesar's casino for a loooong time or ever, you may as well convert your Canadian wins (if any) back to USD. They probably offer the best exchange rate. If you plan to return any time soon, you may as well set the CAD aside for your next trip. NO one in MI wants to take in Canadian coins or bills. It's been a long time since I tried to exchange CAD to USD at Detroit casinos but the exchange rates offered then were super bad! Use up Canadian coins for tipping in Canada. If you still have Canadian quarters, I have heard tell they work in our car washes and newspaper boxes, sometimes.

Standing too close - Part 3..
Ever have the folks come up to you as the bells, lights and whistles are going off on your handpay and ask you "How much did you win?"
Well, when that happens to me, I now turn to them and ask "How much money do you make in a year?" When they look at me with that perplexed look, I simply say "You want to know about my finances, why can't I ask you about yours? "
No one has punched me.... yet.
