OK What Would YOU do??
My defense it - it was quarters and a dealt straight flush. If it would have been a regular flush I would have dropped the off suit.

Same thing you did regardless of whether I was up or down, funny thing is I've hit as many royal flushes as straight flushes in my lifetime.

I would have gone for the royal...I have a 1 in 47 chance of getting it...which are the best odds short of being dealt one...

But, the payoff is only 13.3 to 1 - so going for the royal is not a good choice. The only game I'm aware of where discarding the 9 and going for the royal is a good play is deuces wild, with its comparatively low straight flush payout.

If it were nickels I'd obviously toss it and go for the royal. But you did the right thing here!

Yeah, you would break a regular straight flush in Deuces. But if it was a "Wild Royal" in Deuces, you should hold onto that too, even though it only pays 100 or 125 (4 to a natural RF pays about ~95). This straight flush pays 300, so the decision isn't even close. Whoever breaks a straight flush paying 300 might as well just go play a slot machine, imo.

I would gladly give $62.50 for the chance at $1000
EDIT: just saw the pay table is 300. My answer stays the same though.

God bless everyone who would break that straight flush and go for the royal. Keep playing heavily at Gold Coast, Palms, Rampart, and South Point.
