Playing for a Royal
Assuming you play one line Jacks or Better, the odds of hitting a Royal are about one in every 40,000 hands. If you can play 800 hands an hour, that's about one every 50 hours of play. If you play A-10s and take three to a Royal over a paying pair, how much can you increase the frequency of a Royal? I realize there's no guarantee, just wondering...

Phil about 5 years ago I was playing 3/5 TDB and within 4 hours I hit 3 royals on the same machine and a 4th on the machine right next to it.
There are some days when you can throw frequency and odds right out with the bath water.

Yea, I've seen some of that myself. I hate playing Jacks, but might play it more if I could see a Royal a little more often. At my frequency of play, I see about 2-3 Royals a year, not enough to keep me interested. I tried playing multi-line, but I don't have the physiological bankroll.

Wolf Video Poker (and it's vanilla version Frugal Video Poker) is a software product that will let you change the order of the strategy instructions and then it will calculate the return and the frequencies. It is perfect for questions like the one posed by Florida Phil.I recommend Video Poker for Winners, of course, since I helped develop it, but each product out there has a few features the other ones don't. On my computer I have Wolf Video Poker and WinPoker, in addition to VPW. Given the amount most of us play, the price of these software products is very small compared to the value. Bob
