I should be able to compute this myself
....but my brain is too old and rusty....For the 15-9-4-4 deuces game, how much of a penalty am I taking for only keeping the 2 deuces when I have 4 cards to a straight flush and when the rules would normally call for you to keep all 4 cards. Also what would be the additional penalty for only keeping the single decue when you have 3 to a Royal with that deuce. Or another way, perhaps complicating the question in 4,000 hands with 5 quarters in (average day), how much extra would I lose in that scenario per day in the long haul? Thanks in advance for a reply and an approximation is fine for an answer.

Enough of a penalty where I wouldn't suggest doing it. And I didn't do this by hand either.

With 2 deuces, its about 0.13 of a betting unit for suited cards with one gap. With no gaps, its about 0.26 of a betting unit.
For the wild royal it varies from 0.09 units to 0.36 units depending on the royal draw (JT suited is best for most straights and straight flushes).
Unfortunately the "average day" question is more difficult, but I recall reading Wolf video poker can possibly answer this for you according to Bob Dancer.

I don't have this program though. :(

On average, you would lose 104.0552 quarters (or $26.01) per day. Most days you would lose more than that. Presumably, you would do this because you like the thrill of hitting four deuces. You didn't ask, but doing this would allow you to hit that hand about once more every 15 days! This would mean you would be willing to sacrifice a net of $389.73 for the extra set of deuces (that's AFTER taking into consideration that you would make the gain of 1000 quarters minus the 5 quarter initial investment on the single hand that you are going for). Of course, if you were happy making those plays, you would probably also hold a single deuce and forgo holds like 2 & 76 suited and 2 & QJT (different suits) since the latter hands, while being max EV holds, have lower EVs than 2 & JT suited. Adding in those plays, the cost would be an average of $34.99 per day (net), but now you would get the holy grail of four deuces more often, only having to wait 10 days for that extra four deuce reward.

Thanks much for the quick and informative replies. Definitely not worth the risk in the long run.
